New York Jets Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Jets DC Jeff Ulbrich said this week that the team has a "hard-and-fast" rule about D-linemen playing no more than 30-35 snaps per game, according to Connor Hughes of The Athletic. The goal is obviously to keep the defensive front fresh throughout the game. The downside for IDP purposes, of course, is that limited playing time for Quinnen Williams, Carl Lawson, John Franklin-Myers and Jermaine Johnson can limit their stat upside. We'll see just how hard-and-fast that rule is, though. Williams exceeded 35 snaps in 10 of his 15 games last season, and he was coming off an offseason foot fracture. For now, we'll treat this more as something to watch in season than a reason to alter draft outlooks -- especially because none of the aforementioned Jets sit too high in the IDP rankings.

The Jets traded up with Tennessee to take EDGE Jermaine Johnson II with the 26th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Johnson played sparingly across 2 seasons at Georgia before transferring to Florida State. He racked up 17.5 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks over 12 games in his lone season with the Seminoles. Throw in an 89th-percentile speed score at 6'5 and 254 pounds, and Johnson carries attractive IDP upside.

The Jets spent the 4th pick of the NFL Draft on CB Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner. The 6'3 cover man ran a 4.41-second 40-yard dash at the Combine (88th percentile among corners). Gardner grabbed 9 INTs across 3 seasons at Cincinnati but totaled just 99 tackles over 33 games. Don't bet on Gardner being a huge fantasy contributor.

The Jets are signing former Buccaneers S Jordan Whitehead to a 2-year, $14.5 million deal, according to multiple reports. Whitehead spent most of the past 4 years in Tampa Bay's starting lineup, including all 44 of his appearances over the past 3 years. This money says he'll land in the starting lineup with his new team -- likely in place of Marcus Maye, who is also an unrestricted free agent after playing last season on the franchise tag. Whitehead has been a solid tackle collector with the Bucs and should be in a good spot for more of the same with the Jets. S Mike Edwards looks like the best current bet on Tampa Bay's roster to replace Whitehead. We'll see whether the Bucs make further moves at the position, though.

The Jets have placed DT Quinnen Williams on the COVID list, knocking him out for today's game against the Jaguars. That's a big loss for a defense that was already a positive matchup for Jacksonville RB James Robinson.

Jets LB C.J. Mosley (back) and DT Quinnen Williams (shoulder) are active for today's game against the Jaguars.

Jets LB C.J. Mosley (back) and DT Quinnen Williams (shoulder) are questionable for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. Both players finished the week with a full Friday practice, though, and seem on track to play. We'll confirm their status Sunday morning.

Jets DT Quinnen Williams suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. We'll see about his outlook for Week 16 and beyond.

Jets LB C.J. Mosley (back) and DE John Franklin-Myers (hip) are active for today's game against the Saints.

Jets LB C.J. Mosley (back) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints. He finished the week with a full Friday workout, though, and appears on track to play. DE John Franklin-Myers (hip) is also questionable, and also put in a full Friday practice.

Jets LB Quincy Williams (calf) and DE John Franklin-Myers (hip) are active for today's game against the Eagles.

Jets LB Quincy Williams (calf) and DE John Franklin-Myers (hip) are questionable for Sunday's game against the Eagles. Both players followed limited Wednesday and Thursday participation with a full Friday workout and should be ready to go. We'll confirm their statuses Sunday morning.

Jets LB C.J. Mosley (shoulder) is active for today's game against the Texans. Use him as planned in IDP lineups. EDGE John Franklin-Myers (hip) is also active.

Jets LB C.J. Mosley left Sunday's game against the Dolphins for a concussion evaluation early in the 4th quarter and did not return. We have yet to see confirmation that he has entered the concussion protocol but will keep an eye out. LB Quincy Williams reclaimed his starting job from Jarrad Davis in the game and looks like a solid bet for playing time in the Week 12 visit to Houston.

Jets S Marcus Maye limped off the field in the 2nd half of Thursday night's loss to the Colts, and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the team fears he suffered a torn right Achilles' tendon. "It's not looking good," HC Robert Saleh said after the game. Assuming that injury is confirmed -- as they almost always are -- Sharrod Neasman looks like the next man up in the Jets secondary.

11:45am EDT 10/31/21

Jets LB C.J. Mosley (hamstring) is active for today's game against the Bengals. Use him as you planned to in your IDP lineups. S Ashtyn Davis is also active after entering the day questionable.

The Jets have activated LB Jarrad Davis off IR. He has been out since August with an ankle injury. We'll see what role Davis plays but would not trust him in IDP lineups immediately.

ESPN's Rich Cimini reports that the Jets will be activating LB Jarrad Davis (ankle) off IR for Sunday's game against the Bengals. We'll see how much playing time he gets.
