Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot indicates that RB Nick Chubb has likely played his last game for the Browns. The impending free agent has reportedly said he wants to return and likely won't command a big contract. But Cabot says it's "probably not going to happen."
What They're Saying
More from Cabot: "The Browns gave him last season to return from the injury, make more than $2 million, and walk away with some grace and dignity despite being a shadow of his former bruising self. But Chubb ... has vowed he'll be better in his second season out from his two surgeries, and some teams are likely willing to give him a chance."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
"The injury" was, of course, the multi-ligament damage that ended Chubb's 2023 in Week 2.
That situation delayed his start to 2024. And then a broken left foot ended his season in mid-December. In between, Chubb averaged only 3.3 yards per rush.
That from a guy who had never previously dipped below 5.0 for a season.
I wouldn't be shocked if some team takes a shot on Chubb in 2025. But it'll probably include much less money than he's used to. And it likely won't include a shot to lead the backfield in September.
Remember that Chubb has always offered limited receiving (1.5 receptions per game career), and it's tough to make a case for his fantasy attractiveness in 2025.
The Browns currently have just Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong rostered at RB for 2025. Bet on them adding someone significant in free agency or the draft.
Dynasty Impact
Please don't give anything to get Chubb in dynasty this offseason.
If you're talking like Round 6+ pick in your rookie draft ... fine. (Maybe.)
