Week 8 IDP Waiver Wire Targets

        Laiatu Latu, Edge, Indianapolis Colts

        Headshot of Laiatu Latu

Latu isn’t for every league. But if you need to play D-linemen, then you’ll want to give Latu a look.

The Colt racked up 4 QB hits in Sunday’s win over the Chargers, one of two Colts to hit that number among 15 total hits for the game. They’ll find an even better pass-rushing matchup in Week 8 against the Titans.

The five sacks Cam Ward took Sunday marked the fifth time in seven games that he has taken 4+ sacks. And Latu has been rushing more productively than his 2 sacks for the season would indicate.

His 30 total pressures tie for seventh among all edge players and point to multi-sack upside this week.

        Joseph Ossai, Edge, Cincinnati Bengals

        Headshot of Joseph Ossai

Let’s start with a little positive about the player -- basically why we’re hitting Ossai as opposed to another Bengal: The fifth-year pro has logged his two largest snap shares of the season the past two weeks. He also has tackles for loss in three straight games and QB hits in two of the past three.

But the real reason to bother with Ossai for Week 8 is the matchup. The Jets have allowed 5+ sacks to three straight opponents. One of those was a tough Broncos pass rush. The other two? Weak fronts from the Cowboys and Panthers.

Carolina entered the weekend with 5 sacks for the season. It added 6 in beating the Jets. That included rookie Edge Nic Scourton notching his first 3 QB hits and first 1.5 sacks of the year.

Ossai’s not worth much IDP attention most weeks, but he carries serious upside for Week 8.

        Barrett Carter, LB, Cincinnati Bengals

        Headshot of Barrett Carter

Carter has has played every snap in two straight games and racked up 10+ tackles each time.

He beat his 10 tackles from Week 6 with 12 of them -- including 8 solos -- in Thursday night’s win over the Steelers.

Carter looks like a top-24 LB option going forward. And his college numbers indicate upside beyond the tackle production. Carter tallied 30.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, and 20 passes defensed across his three starting seasons at Clemson.

SirVocea Dennis, LB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

        Headshot of Sirvocea Dennis

I’ve been high on Dennis since the preseason, but his modest production through six weeks has tested my patience. Monday night either delivered a breakout or reintroduced my symptoms.

Dennis racked up 12 tackles and a sack in the loss to the Lions. That included a season-high 8 solos but marked his third game among the past four with at least 6 solos.

A Week 8 date with the Saints makes Dennis easier to buy back into. New Orleans has yielded the sixth-most fantasy points to LBs so far. Three straight opponents have had two LBs with 7+ tackles.

        Riley Moss, CB, Denver Broncos

        Headshot of Riley Moss

Moss barely appeared in the Week 7 box score. His biggest play in the win over the Giants was a questionable pass-interference call late in the fourth quarter.

That marked Moss’ third weak fantasy outing among the past four games. But Week 8 brings a high-upside matchup with the Cowboys.

Dallas entered Sunday providing the fourth-most DB fantasy points per game, including the league’s most solo tackles.

        Harrison Smith, S, Minnesota Vikings

        Headshot of Harrison Smith

Smith finally got back to a full-time role in Sunday’s loss to the Eagles. And that marked a big jump from his first three games back.

Smith went from 39%, 32%, and 41% snap shares to 100% against Philly. And he made a decent 4 solo tackles, including 1 for a loss, plus a pass defensed.

That’s not enough to make him a strong waiver target this week. But his matchup with the Chargers makes him an option for anyone fishing to cover the six-team bye.

L.A. has allowed the second-most fantasy points to DBs, including the league’s most total tackles and 3.3 passes defensed per game.
