Rams QB Matt Stafford (back) was expected to practice on Monday after a successful throwing session on Saturday. But Stafford did not take the field on Monday, instead heading to a "restorative and rejuvenation" chamber parked next to the Rams' practice field, according to ESPN's Sarah Barshop.
Barshop: "McVay said while Stafford had 'a great workout' and 'felt good' Saturday, he 'didn't feel good enough' to throw Monday. The Rams 'didn't think [practicing] was the right thing to do based on how he woke up feeling today,' McVay said."
McVay when asked whether surgery is an option for Stafford: "That hasn't been a conversation that we've had. I haven't gone down that road yet in terms of those types of conversations. There's been a lot of conversations about what's the best method of how we want to approach it. That hasn't been something that comes up."
There have been twists and turns in this Stafford story over the last few weeks, but this is as concerned as we've been. Although that Saturday throwing session reportedly went well, Stafford's back obviously didn't respond as hoped.
It's unclear when he'll try throwing again next, with the regular season less than four weeks away.
Stafford isn't on the fantasy radar outside of best-ball and superflex leagues. But his availability has a big impact on WRs Puka Nacua and Davante Adams (and RB Kyren Williams, to a lesser extent).
Jimmy Garoppolo is one of the better backup QBs in the league and could keep this offense afloat if Stafford misses time. But he'd be a tangible downgrade for the pass catchers.
