Roughly no one expected Seahawks WR Cooper Kupp to deliver a positive fantasy outing in Monday night's matchup with the difficult Houston pass defense. But the veteran wideout made sure we all took notice. Kupp did gobble up 32 yards with his first catch of the game, opening Seattle's third possession, which eventually produced a TD. But Kupp wouldn't draw another official target. (He did have one negated by penalty.) And he did register the game's worst passer rating by tossing an INT on a first-down trick play in the middle of the second quarter.
This was actually the fifth pass attempt of Kupp's NFL career and the first one that he completed to either team. Let's hope it's enough to put Kupp's QB career to bed.
Otherwise, you couldn't tell by the target counts, but Kupp did remain Seattle's No. 2 WR. His 31 routes trailed Jaxon Smith-Njigba's lead by just four and checked in 12 ahead of No. 3 Tory Horton, according to Pro Football Focus.
That 88.5% route rate -- removing Kupp's attempt from the team total -- actually marked Kupp's highest single-game rate this season, according to Fantasy Points Data numbers.
So if you were hoping that the mere one target signaled Seattle phasing Kupp out in favor of younger, more exciting options ... sorry.
Horton did beat Kupp 3-1 in targets but has gone two straight games without a reception. The rookie has yet to exceed 3 catches or 39 yards in a game this season.
We'll watch for any changes coming out of the Week 8 bye, but JSN looks like the only worthwhile fantasy WR in Seattle for the season's second half.
