The Giants are firing HC Brian Daboll, according to multiple reports. Daboll had been in the middle of his fourth year with the team, and things have gone downhill since a 2022 playoff trip opened his tenure with optimism. Those Giants went 9-7-1 and then beat the Vikings on the road in the Wild Card round (before getting smoked 38-7 at Philly). The 2023 Giants lost QB Daniel Jones early to an ACL tear and wound up 6-11. They dipped to 3-14 last season and have started this year 2-8, following Sunday's come-from-ahead loss at Chicago. OC Mike Kafka takes over as the interim head coach.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
It's not a surprising end for Daboll, given the Giants' records the past three seasons. Here's how his teams ranked in scoring:
- 15th
- 30th
- 31st
- 24th (so far this year)
Daboll's first Giants team and his final two Buffalo offenses -- Josh Allen's third and fourth seasons -- mark the only three times among Daboll's 12 years as an NFL HC or OC that his squad ranked higher than 20th in scoring.
How much the move impacts QB Jaxson Dart and the rest of the offense is anyone's guess.
Kafka has been with Daboll in New York the whole time after spending four years as QBs coach in Kansas City (plus another as offensive quality control coach) under Andy Reid.
Kafka added assistant HC to his title the past two years, and has likely been intimately involved with all offensive planning to this point.
We'll see about the coaching plan beyond this season, but I'd have to bet the 2026 head man isn't currently on staff.
The bigger immediate issue for Giants fantasy values is obviously the concussion that knocked Jaxson Dart out of Sunday's game. We'll see both how long the injury sidelines Dart and whether the Giants trim his rushing usage after he's back.
The QB has averaged 3.0 designed runs per game across his seven starts, according to Pro Football Focus. His 22 designed runs for the season lead all QBs, despite Dart not entering the lineup until Week 4.
Other Winners & Losers
Giants fans look like at least minor winners for Daboll being gone. We'll see what the franchise does from here, though.
