Our Thoughts

Wan'Dale Robinson's Preseason Player Analysis

Bottom Line

Further removed from a 2022 ACL tear, we may get a better version of Robinson in 2024.

But what about his volume? Malik Nabers joined the squad in Round 1. He projects as a dynamic, pro-ready weapon.

Targets are essential for a player like Robinson, who isn't a downfield or red zone factor.

The third-year pro is OK as a back-of-the-roster WR in PPR. There’s just not a significant ceiling here – notable for best ball leagues.

What We Learned Last Year

  • A torn ACL surfaced in Week 11 of 2022. As a result, he missed Week 1 and Week 2 of last season.
  • Robinson continued to play a short-range slot role for the Giants.
    • Robinson saw 50 targets from the slot, a number only 16 WRs beat.
    • Of his 76 total targets, 12% came on screens. That contributed to a 5.5-yard average depth of target (down from 6.1 in ‘22).
    • Only six of his targets came 20+ yards downfield.
  • His yards per route run dropped to 1.31. His yards per catch fell over one yard to 8.8.
  • On the year, Robinson saw only two red zone targets. He scored once, giving him two total TDs on 83 career catches.
  • Losing Daniel Jones to a November ACL tear didn’t help.
    • New York QBs combined for 15 passing TDs and 197 passing yards per game.
    • The Giants ranked bottom five in total yards and points.
  • Robinson finished as a top-36 WR five times. He slotted outside the top 50 on nine occasions.

What to Expect in 2024

  • Robinson returns for year three alongside HC Brian Daboll, OC Mike Kafka, and QB Daniel Jones.
  • Malik Nabers joins the Giants as an early Round 1 pick with immense potential.
    • He tallied 161 catches, 2,586 yards, and 17 TDs over the past two seasons.
    • Current projections have him for ~125 targets. His presence contributes to Robinson’s middling projection of 86 targets.
    • Nabers can be moved around the formation; he’s not a threat to eliminate Robinson’s slot role.
  • Darren Waller retired. His absence removes 74 targets (12 games).
  • Saquon Barkley joined the Eagles in free agency.
    • We may see some backfield targets shift elsewhere with Devin Singletary now the lead back. The fantasy impact figures to be minimal for Robinson, though.
  • Daniel Jones returns for year three alongside HC Brian Daboll and OC Mike Kafka.
    • Coming off a November ACL tear, Jones is expected to return for Week 1. He continues to project as a below average passer.

Malik Nabers Hurts Knee in Practice

Malik Nabers Hurts Knee in Practice

The Giants added WR Malik Nabers to the practice report as limited Thursday with a knee injury. That indicates he hurt the joint in practice. We'll watch for more details on the issue and the rookie's Week 2 outlook.

Giants WR Wan'Dale Robinson (quad) is listed as questionable for this weekend's game vs. the Rams. He went from limited participation on Wednesday to full participation on Thursday back to limited on Friday. We'll look for more info on Robinson's status, but the quad adds some risk to his Week 17 fantasy profile.

Giants QB Daniel Jones (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday's game vs. the Jets. He remained limited in practice all week but hasn't been cleared for contact. QB Tyrod Taylor gets the start again this weekend. He's played reasonably well the past two weeks, completing 65% of his passes at 7.4 yards per attempt with two TDs and 0 INTs. Taylor isn't a recommended fantasy play against a tough Jets defense, but he's not a significant downgrade for guys like RB Saquon Barkley and TE Darren Waller.

Giants QB Daniel Jones (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday night's game vs. the Bills. He didn't practice all week, so it's certainly possible that he misses more time. QB Tyrod Taylor will start on Sunday night for the first time since December 2021. Taylor is a serviceable backup but has little chance behind New York's leaky offensive line. We're considering Taylor just a slight downgrade from Jones for New York's pass-catchers.

Giants WR Wan'Dale Robinson left in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Dolphins to be checked for a concussion.

Update: Robinson cleared concussion protocol and has returned to the game.
