Giants QB Daniel Jones (knee) is not expected to land on the PUP list to begin training camp, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Jones is working back from a right ACL tear suffered on November 5. He's on track to be ready for Week 1, barring a setback between now and then.
"At this point, I'm doing pretty much everything -- running, cutting, everything I need to do," Jones said of his progress.
This is clearly positive news for Jones' 2024 fantasy value. But being cleared to return from his knee injury isn't the same as being 100% recovered. It's fair to assume that Jones' mobility will be limited at least early this season. And rushing production has been a huge part of his fantasy value.
Beyond that, Jones will be looking to bounce back from a rough 2023. He averaged just 191 yards and 0.5 TDs passing in his four full games last season, averaged a career-low 5.7 yards per attempt, and registered an absurd 15.8% sack rate.
New York's offensive line remains a concern heading into 2024, but Jones at least got a weapon upgrade with the arrival of first-round rookie WR Malik Nabers.
Jones is only worth drafting as a QB3 in best ball and superflex leagues. But we're not completely writing him off as a fantasy asset this season. Jones ranked 14th among QBs in fantasy points per game in 2022 and 15th as a rookie in 2019.
We've had Jones projected to be ready for Week 1 since the spring, so he's not moving in the QB rankings.
