Deneric Prince Works Ahead of Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Chiefs RB Deneric Prince took reps ahead of RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire in Tuesday's training camp session, according to Arrowhead's Pride Pete Sweeney. RB Isiah Pacheco was the No. 1 RB, as expected. RBs Keaontay Ingram and Louis Rees-Zammit worked as the fourth and fifth RBs.

2024 Fantasy Football Impact

We're not over-reacting to one drill in a July training camp practice, but it's at least worth noting that Prince worked ahead of Edwards-Helaire here. This could be a legitimate battle for the No. 2 RB job.

The Chiefs re-signed Edwards-Helaire earlier this offseason, but he got just $1.7 million on a one-year deal. That followed an ugly 2023 season that saw CEH average a career-worst 3.2 yards per carry.

Prince drew some buzz last summer but was cut in late August and spent the season on Kansas City's practice squad.

This battle is officially a situation to monitor in the Chiefs' high-scoring offense. We'd still consider Edwards-Helaire the favorite to win the No. 2 job, but don't consider him locked in as the Pacheco handcuff.

Other Winners & Losers

The real winner here is Pacheco, who faces no legitimate competition for the lead RB job. He finished RB14 in PPR points per game last year, despite losing passing-down snaps to RB Jerick McKinnon. McKinnon remains unsigned as of now.
