Titans HC Brian Callahan said his team will fill the TE role with "a lot of different players." TEs Chig Okonkwo, Josh Whyle, and Nick Vannett will all get "plenty of opportunities" this season, Callahan added.
What They're Saying
"They're all gonna get plenty of opportunities," Callahan said. "It’s not a room that’s gonna be dominated by one guy. Those guys are all gonna help us. They're all gonna have roles. And it allows us to be a little more multiple in personnel groupings. We can use all three of them, we can use two of them, we can use one of them. And they all have different skill sets. ... We’re gonna fill the tight end role with a lot of different players, as opposed to maybe just one or two guys like some teams do.”
"I'm excited to see what Josh [Whyle] does in training camp, how Chig [Okonkwo] comes along."
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
Not what Chig Okonwko fans want to hear. He remains the best bet to lead Titans TEs in targets and fantasy points this season. But between these Callahan quotes and the additions of WRs Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd, it's tough to imagine Okonkwo being a reliable play in fantasy lineups.
It's worth noting that none of the five Bengals teams Callahan coordinated had a TE reach 70 targets. Last year's Bengals had three TEs finish with between 26 and 50 targets.
Dynasty Impact
Okonkwo's dynasty appeal is fading after an encouraging rookie season. He set new personal bests last year with 54 catches and 528 yards, but he sunk from 2.61 yards per route to 1.31. Last year's mark ranked 19th among 33 qualifiers. Turning just 25 in September, Okonkwo is still worth a roster spot in all dynasty leagues. But owners should not be counting on him as a starter going forward.
Whyle is worth stashing in deep dynasty leagues. The 2023 fifth-rounder earned an 8.98 Relative Athletic Score at the Combine after topping 300 yards in each of his final three college seasons at Cincinnati.
Rankings Movement
We shaved some targets from Okonkwo's projection, knocking him from TE21 to TE23 in the PPR rankings. Whyle made a slight move up the rankings but still isn't draftable in redraft.
