The Seahawks have agreed to a three-year extension with S Julian Love that could be worth up to $36 million, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. The deal marks a significant increase on Love's average annual salary from the two-year, $12 million pact he signed with Seattle last offseason.
What They're Saying
Condotta: "The extension seems an emphatic vote of confidence in the ability of Love to not only serve as a playmaker on the field able to fill multiple roles, but also a leader in the locker room."
New HC Mike Macdonald this spring: "On the field he has elite poise, and that’s something we’re chasing. J Love in particular, a guy that will be able to move around, change some different spots. You don’t see that yet, but he’ll be a guy we’ll be able to move around and utilize in a pretty sweet way."
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
Love started 12 games and saw fluctuating playing time in his first season with the Seahawks. But he closed the year as a full-timer and then watched the team dump safeties Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs in the offseason.
Love already looked like a clear full-time starter for 2024. This contract likely locks him in as such through at least 2026.
Love ranked fifth among DB scorers in IDP leagues (depending on your format) last season, even with uneven playing time. He makes for a strong fantasy option this season -- especially given Macdonald's stated plans for role versatility.
Dynasty Impact
DBs can be especially tough to trust year to year, with plenty of changeover in that area and fantasy-scoring fluctuations.
Love has been a strong tackle producer when starting, though, helping his base.
Last year found him boosting his coverage plays vs. what he produced with the Giants. Love's 4 INTs and 10 passes defensed might leave room for regression in 2024. But he played CB across three years at Notre Dame, amassing 39 passes defensed and 5 INTs.
So the enhanced production in coverage might also stick around.
Rankings Movement
There's no need to adjust our projections for Love, because he already sat high in both our 2024 DB rankings and IDP dynasty rankings.
