The Patriots are finalizing a three-year extension with S Jabrill Peppers, according to ESPN's Field Yates. The deal will pay $24 million, with a max value of $30 million.
What They're Saying
New HC Jerod Mayo: "He really embodies everything that you want on the field. He's very selfless out there, flying around all the time, and it's good to get that deal done."
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
Peppers already stood as a clear starter and full-timer. He started all 15 of his appearances last year (after just five starts in 2022) and only once dipped below 88% playing time.
This extension only further solidifies that role. But Peppers didn't do much with it fantasy-wise last season.
He ranked outside the top 50 DBs in total fantasy points and points per game (depending on your format), despite:
- grabbing multiple INTs (2) for the first time in his career and
- notching his second-most passes defensed for a season
Peppers ranked just fourth on the team in total tackles (behind Kyle Dugger among New England DBs) and fifth in solos.
Peppers doesn't look like more than a DB5 for your IDP league.
Dynasty Impact
The extension obviously helps the 28-year-old (29 on Oct. 4), who's on his third NFL team.
Just don't overrate Peppers' value vs. his record of meh fantasy production.
