Justin Herbert Thriving in New Offense

Chargers QB Justin Herbert has “blown away the new regime in Los Angeles,” per insider Albert Breer. Not exactly a shocking tidbit, but it’s nice to get confirmation as Herbert plays under his fourth different OC.

What They're Saying

Here’s the skinny from Breer:

“The size, arm strength and ability to move, of course, they [the new coaching staff] knew about. What they’ve seen for themselves, though, is more than just that.

First, it’s Herbert’s aptitude. The speed with which he’s picked up Greg Roman’s offense has reflected a very fast study, a maniacal worker or (and most likely) both. Second, his athleticism, and specifically ability to run and pull away from other great athletes in the open field, has been eye-opening—and tantalizing for a staff that knows how to threaten a defense with a mobile quarterback.”

2024 Fantasy Football Impact

A lack of pass volume is what places Herbert outside the top-15 of our fantasy QB rankings. Currently, he’s projected for 494 attempts – 21st at the position.

That’s life when you’re playing under run-first HC Jim Harbaugh and OC Greg Roman. We’ll also see how the Chargers young pass catching corps develops after losing Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

We’re not putting an outlier-type season past a top talent like Herbert. But realistically, he’s not someone to view as a weekly fantasy starter.
