Jalin Hyatt ahead of Darius Slayton?

The Athletic's Dan Duggan notes that Giants WR Jalin Hyatt "has been getting more reps with the starters than [Darius] Slayton in camp." That's notable after Slayton remained ahead of Hyatt on the depth chart throughout last season.

What They're Saying

"It wouldn’t be surprising if Slayton’s consistency eventually pushes him above Hyatt," Duggan adds. "But it looks like the team will give their recent draft pick every opportunity to seize the No. 3 receiver role, which is bad news for Slayton in a contract year."

2024 Fantasy Football Impact

This battle probably isn't over yet, but drafters should at least consider Hyatt the favorite for the outside WR job opposite Malik Nabers for now.

Hyatt was always a more exciting fantasy pick than Slayton anyway. While the veteran has been an underrated player, he's 27 now and very likely doesn't have any additional upside beyond what he's already shown. Hyatt, meanwhile, is the 22-year-old, second-year player who won the 2022 Biletnikoff Award as college football's top receiver. He boasts 4.4 speed and averaged 16.2 yards on his 23 receptions as a rookie last year.

Even if Hyatt holds off Slayton, he'll likely be no higher than third in the pecking order behind Nabers and WR Wan'Dale Robinson. Hyatt is unlikely to become a reliable starter in managed fantasy leagues. But he's worth considering as a late-round pick in best ball draft -- and should be drafted ahead of Slayton at this point.
