Xavier Worthy Scores Twice On Three Touches

Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy scored on his very first NFL touch in Thursday night's opener vs. the Ravens. With a little less than six minutes left in the first quarter, Worthy took an end-around and used a cavalcade of blockers to zoom through the Baltimore defense for a 21-yard TD. His 4.2 speed was evident on the play. Then, early in the fourth quarter, Worthy was left wide open on a coverage bust for a 35-yard TD from QB Patrick Mahomes. The rookie's only other touch of the night was a 12-yard catch-and-run on a crossing pattern in the second quarter.

2024 Fantasy Football Impact

We obviously can't expect Worthy to be nearly this efficient going forward. (Although his speed in this offense could make him an outlier all season.)

But the good news is that Worthy saw strong playing time in his debut. He played 63% of the Chiefs' offensive snaps and, most importantly, ran a route on 77% of pass plays. That matched Rashee Rice for the lead among Kansas City WRs.

We'll see what happens to Worthy's playing time when WR Marquise Brown returns from his shoulder injury, potentially as soon as next week. But there was certainly more good than bad to come out of Worthy's Week 1.

Expect to find him on the fringes of WR3 territory for a Week 2 showdown with the Bengals.
