David Montgomery Leads Big Lions Rushing Day

Lions RB David Montgomery ran for 105 yards and a TD on 23 carries (4.6 per rush) in Sunday's win at Arizona. He also beat Jahmyr Gibbs 3-0 in targets, turning that into 3 receptions for 17 yards. Gibbs also ran well, taking 16 carries for 83 yards (5.2 per rush). Although he didn't see a target, Gibbs did take a pitch from WR Amon-Ra St. Brown after a reception in the second quarter and run it into the end zone.

2024 Fantasy Football Impact

Detroit handed to RBs on 39 of 68 offensive snaps at Arizona. That 57.4% run rate seems like an over-correction vs. the 55 pass attempts of the Week 2 loss to the Bucs. But the results supported the plan.

Montgomery's 23 carries were his second-most with the Lions. Gibbs' 16 carries were his third-most since joining the team last year. And it marked his highest total in a game that Montgomery played.

That combination says it's rushing volume that we shouldn't expect to see often.

A Week 4 home date with the Seahawks will be interesting. Seattle sits just 23rd in PPR points per game allowed to RBs so far. But the Seahawks have also seen the eighth most RB carries and yielded the 11th-most RB rushing yards (pending the Monday night games).

Montgomery and Gibbs should both sit in fantasy-starter territory for that one, ahead of a Week 5 bye.
