Browns Edge Myles Garrett will have an MRI Monday on both feet, according to ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi. Garrett said Friday that he was dealing with lingering issues in both feet that might need surgery after the season. But he apparently aggravated the issues in Sunday's loss to the Giants -- and is also dealing with compensatory problems now.
Garrett: "It's more than just the foot. It's multiple things going on. So, I mean, if I think the foot's feeling good or feeling better, it's one thing or another. So it's kind of just feeding into each other right now, and nothing's sitting right because nothing has time to heal because I'm leaning on something else and I'm compensating here to make something hurt there. It's just been -- like I said, a cycle."
Garrett's 58% snap share against the Giants marked his lowest playing time in a game since November 2020. He still managed a team-high 3 QB hits in the game, but otherwise tallied just 1 tackle.
We'll see about the diagnosis and outlook following the MRI, which Garrett said will be the first for these foot problems. It's pretty worrisome, though, to hear about expanding lower-body issues for a guy whose game depends so much on his ability to explode off the line.
Losing Garrett for any time -- or even dealing with a lesser version of him -- would not only impact IDP lineups. It could significantly hinder the Cleveland defense.
The 340 total yards the Browns allowed to the unexciting Giants offense in Week 3 marked the most they've allowed through the first three weeks. Cleveland also only allowed five of last year's 17 opponents to reach that level.
Garrett has been pretty durable through his seven-plus seasons, but that has included playing through a number of "minor" injuries. If he continues to play through this one, it might be a good time to consider shopping the 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year in your dynasty IDP league.
He'll turn 29 this December, making this his age-29 season. Our historical aging data says D-linemen tend to stay close to peak for that season before dropping to 90% of peak the following year and 82% in the age-31 campaign.
That doesn't mean you should go "fire sale" mode on Garrett. But see if you can get a strong return.
