Rachaad White Maintains Slight Backfield Lead

Buccaneers RB Rachaad White had his most efficient rushing outing of the season in the Week 5 loss to the Falcons, taking 10 carries for 72 yards. The majority of that damage came on a career-long 56-yarder in the second quarter. White's other nine carries totaled 16 yards (1.8 YPC). And his three catches went backward six yards.

White remained slightly ahead of RB Bucky Irving in this one. He led the rookie in:

  • Snaps (34 to 23)
  • Routes (17 to 11)
  • Carries (10 to 9)
  • Targets (3 to 2)

Irving again looked like the better player, although he did lose a costly fumble late in the fourth quarter. He re-entered on the next series, but that was after White appeared to tweak an ankle.

This backfield has been around a 60/40 split in favor of White for two straight weeks now. It's possible it remains that way for the foreseeable future. That'd keep White at least in the RB3 mix.

But it's also possible that Irving's role continues to grow at White's expense -- especially when the Bucs aren't on a short week. White remains a sell if you can get anything of value for him.
