Vikings Get Cam Akers Back

The Texans are trading RB Cam Akers to the Vikings for a swap of conditional Day 3 draft picks in 2026. Houston's sending Akers and a conditional seventh-rounder to the Vikings for a conditional sixth-rounder, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

What They're Saying

More from Pelissero: "The Vikings' trade for Cam Akers isn’t a reflection of any long-term concerns with RB Aaron Jones, who could play Sunday. Just another quality RB who knows the system going back to his days with Kevin O’Connell in L.A."

2024 Fantasy Football Impact

The L.A. connection refers to when O'Connell worked on Sean McVay's staff with the Rams, who drafted Akers. O'Connell's Vikings previously acquired Akers from the Rams last season.

He joins a RB depth chart that currently features Jones, Ty Chandler, and Myles Gaskin. Don't be surprised if Akers supplants Gaskin.

Akers became expendable in Houston when the Texans got Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce back healthy. That team clearly decided it had enough with those two and Dare Ogunbowale rounding out the top 3.

We'll see about Jones' status for Week 7. He's working back from a pre-bye hip injury.

Don't expect Akers to become a fantasy factor without Jones missing time -- and perhaps a Chandler injury on top of that.
