Broncos RB Javonte Williams ran 14 times for 88 yards and two TDs in Thursday night's win over the Saints. He found more running room than he did in any of his previous six games this season and consistently added extra yards with his tackle-breaking ability. Per Pro Football Focus, Williams averaged 3.6 yards after contact per attempt. He tacked on 23 more yards on three receptions to go over 110 total yards on the night.
The 88 rushing yards were a season high by 11 for Williams. And these were his first two TDs of the year.
The matchup against a struggling Saints defense certainly helped. But Williams is trending up in terms of usage and efficiency.
After averaging 8.0 carries and 3.7 targets on a 55% snap rate over the first three games of the season, Williams has climbed to 12.3 carries and 4.5 targets on a 63% snap rate over the last four. His carry share has gone from 33% to 44%.
Williams has also been more efficient with the bigger workload. He mustered just 2.2 yards per carry over those first three games but is up to 5.1 over the last four. Williams has topped 4.6 yards per carry in three of those last four games.
He's starting to look like a weekly RB2, especially if this Broncos offense can improve under rookie QB Bo Nix.
Williams gets an awesome Week 8 matchup against the Panthers before a brutal three game stretch: at Baltimore, at Kansas City, vs. Atlanta. Those teams all rank top six in adjusted fantasy points allowed to RBs.
