Why You Shouldn't Overrate Tank Dell's Empty Game

Texans WR Tank Dell went without a catch in Sunday's loss at Green Bay. It marked the first time in his young career that Dell didn't record a reception in a game he didn't leave early. His only previous no-catch game came in Week 13 last season, when Dell suffered a season-ending leg fracture on just his ninth snap.

Dell drew just 4 targets against the Packers, but that ranked second on the team in a game that saw C.J. Stroud throw for only 86 yards.

Dell garnered a solid 21% share of Stroud's 19 targeted passes. Only WR Stefon Diggs drew more. Only Diggs (5 receptions) and RB Joe Mixon (2) caught more than one pass for the game. And no Texans player exceeded 28 receiving yards.

It was a complete throwaway passing day for Houston. And it followed Dell catching 16 of 19 targets over the previous three contests. He even barely missed completing a diving grab in the end zone against the Packers.

A Week 8 home date with Indy's weak defense should help.

With WR Nico Collins (hamstring) still out for at least two more games, expect to find Dell somewhere in WR3 territory of our Week 8 rankings.

A Week 9 visit to the Jets, however, might make Dell worth avoiding.
