The Saints are expected to place WR Chris Olave on IR ahead of Sunday's game against the Falcons, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That would obviously mean at least four games down for Olave following his fifth career concussion. But he also might not play again this season.
Rapoport: "Given the nature of his injury, the team’s record, and the fact that he’s been seeing specialists, there is a real chance Olave has played his last down in 2024."
Saints beat writer Ross Jackson: "This has been the expectation locally as well. Interim Head Coach Darren Rizzi said that they’re more concerned with 'Chris Olave the person' rather than 'Chris Olave the player.'"
Saints beat writer Nick Underhill: "I’m told the current expectation is that he doesn't play again this season, but that could change."
Our guess is certainly that Olave won't play again this season. You can elect to keep him rostered for now if you have space to do so without damaging your roster. But he's droppable in nearly all redraft formats.
The Saints will now proceed with Mason Tipton, Cedrick Wilson Jr., and Marquez Valdes-Scantling as the top three WRs. (Bub Means is also on IR.)
That's a corps to avoid as much as possible in fantasy. And it makes QB Derek Carr a guy to avoid.
The situation also boosts the receiving floor and ceiling for RB Alvin Kamara and TE Taysom Hill -- and adds low-level upside to players such as TE Juwan Johnson and TE Foster Moreau.
The concussion situation is worrisome for Olave's long-term outlook as well. There's not much we can do about that on the dynasty front at the moment, though.
Ashton Jeanty projects as the RB1 in 2025. But is he an elite dynasty prospect? Let's dig into his film and profile to find out.
