Rams WR Cooper Kupp announced Monday that the team has informed him it's trying to trade him. Kupp added that he doesn't want to be traded, but it sounds like L.A. is set to unload the WR's contract.
What They're Saying
Kupp: "I was informed that the team will be seeking a trade immediately and will be working with me and my family to find the right place to continue competing for championships. I don’t agree with the decision and always believed it was going to begin and end in LA."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Kupp closed his announcement by calling his 2024 training camp "one of the best ... of my career." And he says he's "highly motivated, as healthy as ever."
Being healthy is obviously always good. But if Kupp actually opened the year with one of his best camps and closed it fully healthy, then that leaves little explanation for his crappy finish to the season.
Kupp drew just 3 targets in each of his final three regular-season games. And then he drew a target on just 11.3% of QB Matthew Stafford's pass attempts over two playoff contests.
Kupp also tied his career low for yards per catch and set career lows in yards per target and yards after catch per reception. He has posted his two worst yards-per-route rates the past two seasons.
Now he heads into his age-32 campaign, a year that has historically seen production drop off at the position, according to our aging-curve data.
Kupp has also lost time to lower-body injuries each of the past three years. That certainly factored into the limited production. But it's another challenge for the aging wideout.
Dynasty Impact
Kupp still has two years left on his contract, each at more than $27 million in cap hit, according to Spotrac. That'll likely challenge the trade process and lower the return.
The right landing spot could keep Kupp fantasy-relevant for 2025. But your best bet would be to seize any attractive dynasty trade offer.
Other Winners & Losers
We'll see about the rest of the Rams' pass offense.
WR Puka Nacua's obviously locked in as the lead WR for the foreseeable future. But Stafford doesn't appear to be a lock for 2025, with retirement an option. No. 3 WR Demarcus Robinson is headed for free agency in March.
Projected ADP Movement
Kupp has opened best ball season with a WR54 ADP in early Underdog Fantasy drafts.
That makes him a low-risk shot to take. But his age and recent performance also make him a weak bet for a high ceiling.
Kupp's ultimately fine to mix into your drafting in that range regardless of where he winds up. That landing spot could impact his ADP and alter how we should treat the veteran.
