The Saints are re-signing Edge Chase Young to a three-year deal worth $51 million, with incentives that could push it to $57 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Young spent last season with the Saints after splitting 2023 between the Commanders and 49ers. He opened his career in Washington, which drafted him second overall in 2020.
Young hasn't come close to living up to his draft position so far, though injuries have played a part. That included a 2021 ACL tear. And even his one-year deal with the Saints ahead of last season included per-game roster bonuses go guard against issues following offseason neck surgery.
But this three-year commitment says the Saints were pleased with Young's age-25 season.
Although he tallied just 5.5 sacks, Young posted a career-high 21 QB hits, tying for 16th in the league. His 66 total pressures tied for 12th among all edge players, according to Pro Football Focus, though Young's pass-rushing grade checked in just 55th at the position.
Young appears to have settled into the 60-65% playing time range after playing more snaps in Washington. Even within last season, he trended down in that area after topping 70% in four of the first six games.
Staying in that range would likely ding his tackle production. But there's also potential for more pass-rushing efficiency.
Our historical aging data also say that Young is just entering the traditional prime years for the position. He'll turn 26 in April.
Expect Young to land as a low-DL2 with upside in our 2025 IDP rankings.
Young remains a bigger name than producer so far. If you're holding him in dynasty, it's probably better to wait and see how he fares this year -- at age 26 -- rather than sell him off before he has topped 7.5 sacks in a season.
Ashton Jeanty projects as the RB1 in 2025. But is he an elite dynasty prospect? Let's dig into his film and profile to find out.
