        Chiefs Bring Back Kareem Hunt

The Chiefs are re-signing RB Kareem Hunt to a one-year deal. It has a base value of $1.5 million with another $1 million available in incentives, according to insider Jordan Schultz. It's a cheap contract for a 29-year-old who was forced into a significant role last season. Hunt joins Isiah Pacheco and Elijah Mitchell in Kansas City's backfield for now. The Chiefs are still a candidate to add to the depth chart in next month's draft.

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

Hunt wound up carrying 200 times across 13 regular-season outings last year -- his most since his 2017 rookie season. He was effective near the goal line, punching in seven TDs. But he averaged just 3.6 yards per carry. Hunt ranked 45th among 49 RBs in rush yards over expected per attempt and 32nd in Pro Football Focus rushing grade.

Despite the inefficient play, Hunt remained ahead of Pacheco through the playoffs. Pacheco, returning from a September broken leg, averaged 3.6 yards per carry in five regular-season games and then 2.8 in three playoff games.

The big questions in Kansas City's backfield are:

        1. Can Pacheco rediscover the form that led to 4.7 yards per carry over his first two seasons?
        2. Will the Chiefs add a rookie RB capable of winning the lead job?

We imagine that the Chiefs view Hunt as an emergency option who will only play a significant role if the answers to those two questions are no. He's not a target in fantasy drafts right now, but we'll continue to keep a close eye on this backfield throughout the offseason.
