James Cook Stays Away; Will He Report in June?

Bills RB James Cook didn’t report to voluntary practices this week. That’s been a theme all offseason, as Cook hopes to earn a pay raise. 2025 turns up a contract season.

        What They're Saying

Here’s veteran LT Dion Dawkins, via The Athletic.

“Everybody wants us to play football — how many days in a year? — 365 days in a year,” Dawkins said. “That’s what the world would want, but it’s impossible, and this is voluntary. This shouldn’t be hurting anything that’s going on, and whatever’s going on, I just hope it continues to go in a peaceful way.”

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

We’re not adjusting any projections for Cook. It’s May, and we’ll see if he reports for mandatory minicamp on June 10. Our concern wouldn't really ramp up unless he misses a good chunk of training camp.

What we’re confident in saying is that Cook’s TD total will regress from last season. The 25-year-old totaled 4 rushing TDs over his first two seasons, and then erupted for 16 last fall (in 16 games). He added 2 additional scores as a receiver.

Cook wasn’t even a mainstay in the red zone. His 43.6% red zone carry share proved fine, but it was 23rd among RBs. His 48.3% share inside the ten ranked 23rd.

See where Cook sits in our PPR RB rankings.
