Colts HC Shane Steichen said that both QBs Anthony Richardon and Daniel Jones will get about 170 reps a piece in OTAs, citing an open competition for the starting QB job. The team has been flipping the QBs back and forth from play to play during OTAs so far. According to various reports, both QBs have impressed early on.
Colts HC Shane Steichen: We’re breaking down the reps. They are both getting one reps. They’re both getting two reps. I think through OTAs, we’ve got nine good practices. They’ll both get about 170 reps a piece with those guys, with the ones and twos, and we’ll flip-flop them. You guys were out there today. You saw how it worked, and that’s how it’s going to go.”
The Colts QB competition may be one of the most impactful camp battles for fantasy.
Daniel Jones has shown the ability to support multiple fantasy WRs, while Richardson's run-first mentality makes the receiving assets around him suffer.
Passing projections would vary wildly depending on who wins the job.
With numerous potential weapons including WRs Michael Pittman and Josh Downs along with rookie TE Tyler Warren all vying for targets, Jones winning the job would be the best case fantasy scenario.
If Richardson does win the job, it does make him a weekly QB2 with upside due to his rushing ability.
