Derek Carr Hoping To Avoid Shoulder Surgery

We finally have more details on Saints QB Derek Carr's shoulder injury. NFL Network's Jane Slater reports that Carr believes he suffered the injury in Week 14, the same game in which he suffered a wrist injury that ended his season. He didn't realize the shoulder was hurt until he started ramping up his throwing well into this offseason. Carr is trying to avoid surgery on the shoulder, per Slater, but still needs to see if it's something he'll be able to play through. Carr has been at the Saints' facility twice recently to meet with team doctors, and a decision on surgery is expected "sooner than later," Slater adds.

It's nice to have some details on Carr's status, but this remains a murky situation.

Since we first learned of Carr's injury, the Saints spent the 40th overall pick of this year's draft on QB Tyler Shough. The rookie is, at minimum, insurance behind Carr. And it's possible that new HC Kellen Moore would rather just move forward with the rookie.

We'll keep you updated on Carr's status. For now, neither he nor Shough is worth a pick in best ball drafts.

The possibility that Carr could play through this shoulder injury in 2025 dings Shough's dynasty value.
