Niners WR Jauan Jennings won't win any Week 8 fantasy matchups with his 4 receptions for 45 yards in Sunday's loss to the Texans. But it marked a good outing for a receiver fighting through multiple injuries. Jennings led 49ers wideouts in total snaps and ran just one fewer route than WR Kendrick Bourne (30-31). Jennings' seven targets led the team by two, following another seven-target outing (last week) in which only Christian McCaffrey edged him. Jennings' consecutive 4-catch performances look good after his first four contests of the year produced reception totals of 2, 5, 2, and 1.
Jennings has hit 85% playing time in two straight games and three times overall now in six appearances. He has garnered at least seven targets in each of those three contests, while seeing five targets or fewer in the three weeks he fell short of 80% snap shares.
Jennings should stay ahead of Kendrick Bourne as the San Francisco receiving corps continues to get healthier. We'll see how Jennings and Ricky Pearsall coexist on the target front.
Sunday's game added the challenge of a negative matchup with Houston's pass defense. It also found TE George Kittle re-entering the target mix for the first time since Week 1. Kittle actually returned from his hamstring injury in Week 7 but logged just two targets and no catches.
Jennings remained on the injury report leading up to Sunday's game but put in full practices each day. That points to his crowded offense replacing those ailments as Jennings' biggest fantasy hurdle the rest of the way.
The 49ers get an upside matchup with the Giants in Week 9 but then a more challenging Rams defense in Week 10.
