The Falcons believe QB Michael Penix Jr. aggravated the bone bruise in his left knee Sunday that cost him a game earlier this season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport: "More tests coming, but there is concern he'll miss some time."

Kirk Cousins would step in should Penix miss further time. He went an uninspiring 6-of-14 for 48 yards after replacing Penix in Sunday's loss to the Panthers.
Cousins similarly underwhelmed in his Week 8 start against Miami, completing 21 of 31 passes for 173 yards, with no TDs or INTs. He's now averaging just 4.8 yards per pass attempt on 52 throws this season.
The Penix-to-Cousins exchange would hurt Atlanta's offensive outlook. The Falcons head to New Orleans in Week 12, then visit the Jets in Week 13.
