Jeffery Wilson Jr. Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

NBC Bay Area's Matt Maiocco says 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan "appears determined to deploy more of a backs-by-committee approach" this season. That would obviously hurt the touch count for RB Elijah Mitchell, who averaged 18.8 carries per game as a rookie. He also missed 6 games with multiple injuries, though, and needed a knee "clean-up" after the season. San Francisco added RB Tyrion Davis-Price in Round 3 of the NFL Draft and get Jeff Wilson Jr. back to full health after he basically lost 2020 to a meniscus tear. Trey Sermon and JaMycal Hasty also remain but will likely need to fight their way into contention for touches. Mitchell is going RB24 in FFPC drafting and RB23 on Underdog right now. That's not a terrible range, but we're not excited about his 2022 outlook -- especially in full-PPR formats.

Jeff Wilson will head to training camp as the 49ers' #2 RB, according to The Athletic's Matt Barrows. Wilson "looked significantly better in the spring than he did late last season when he was still dealing with the aftereffects of an offseason knee injury," Barrows writes. RB Ty Davis-Price, meanwhile, missed some time this spring with an injury. There's still plenty of time for the rookie to climb the depth chart, but don't assume that TDP will begin the season as RB Elijah Mitchell's backup.

Per beat writer Cam Inman, new 49ers RB coach Anthony Lynn “is believed to be high” on Trey Sermon. The 2nd-year RB handled only 41 attempts as a rookie and watched Elijah Mitchell — drafted 3 rounds later — lead the team in rushing. A former HC, Lynn brings a wealth of experience following stops with 8 different organizations. Only 23, Sermon will look to carve out a role alongside Mitchell, Jeff Wilson and rookie 3rd-rounder Tyrion Davis-Price.

The 49ers held RB Elijah Mitchell out of the offseason program following a "clean-up" knee procedure. While an exact date is unknown, Mitchell underwent the procedure sometime in early 2022. Per team insider Matt Barrows, Mitchell is “expected” to return for training camp. Frankly, it’d be a major surprise if he’s not on the field for day 1. But we’ll keep a close eye on the 2nd-year back who’s fresh off posting 207-963-5 in 11 games (10 starts). He'll be pushed for touches by Jeff Wilson, Trey Sermon and rookie 3rd-rounder Tyrion Davis-Price.

The 49ers re-signed RB Jeff Wilson. The 26-year-old had surgery last May to repair a torn meniscus in his knee and slogged his way to just 3.7 yards per carry after returning in November. He averaged 4.4 yards per carry over his first 3 NFL seasons. Wilson figures to compete for backup duties behind Elijah Mitchell this summer.

The 49ers have ruled RB Elijah Mitchell out for Thursday night's game at Tennessee with his knee injury. Jeff Wilson Jr. dominated backfield work in Sunday's win over Atlanta, with Deebo Samuel and Jimmy Garoppolo the only 2 other Niners to handle more than 1 carry.

49ers GM John Lynch said Tuesday morning that RB Elijah Mitchell will be a game-time decision for Thursday night's tilt with the Titans. Mitchell is out of concussion protocol, and his knee has "taken a positive turn," Lynch said. We'll see what Mitchell does in practice today and tomorrow and how he's listed on the final injury report. A healthy Mitchell has been a workhorse for the 'Niners this season.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (concussion, knee) is out for Sunday’s game vs. the Falcons. HC Kyle Shanahan said Friday that it’s swelling in Mitchell’s knee, and not the concussion, that’s keeping him out. Jeff Wilson will get another game as San Francisco’s lead back. He’s been disappointing in 2 spot starts this season but at least has a plus matchup this weekend against Atlanta’s 27th-ranked RB defense.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (concussion, knee) is out for Sunday’s game vs. the Bengals. RB Jeff Wilson (knee) isn’t listed on the final injury report after practicing all week. He should operate as San Francisco’s lead back this weekend, with RB JaMycal Hasty in a change-of-pace, pass-catching role.

49ers RB Jeff Wilson (knee) graduated to a full practice on Thursday. Insider Matt Barrows confirms that Wilson is the "front runner" to operate as San Francisco's lead back vs. the Bengals this weekend. Wilson racked up 19 carries and 2 targets in a Week 11 spot start -- although he mustered just 58 scoreless yards.

49ers RB Jeff Wilson (knee) got in a limited practice on Wednesday. His knee flared up during last weekend's game, but it looks like he has a shot to play vs. the Bengals on Sunday. Wilson and RB JaMycal Hasty should be owned in all fantasy leagues with RB Elijah Mitchell (concussion, knee) iffy for Week 14.

ESPN's Adam Schefter that 49ers RB Elijah Mitchell had an MRI that showed knee "irritation," in the words of HC Kyle Shanahan. We'll see what that means through the practice week. At the least, it adds a complication to a player already in the concussion protocol. Make sure you have insurance behind Mitchell heading into the weekend.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell is in the concussion protocol, HC Kyle Shanahan said. Mitchell was checked for a head injury during Sunday's loss to Seattle but was cleared to re-enter. He then reported concussion symptoms on Monday morning. We'll track his progress through the protocol this week. RB Jeff Wilson had his knee "flare up" on Sunday, per Shanahan, so he's also iffy for Week 14. JaMycal Hasty is the only healthy RB on San Francisco's roster right now.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (finger, rib) is expected to play vs. the Vikings today, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Mitchell had finger surgery 12 days ago and remained in a non-contact jersey in practice this week. We're assuming the 'Niners trust his ability to carry the football if he ends up active, but it's possible that he isn't used in the passing game. Consider Mitchell a risk/reward RB2 for Week 12

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (finger) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Vikings. He was limited in practice all week and still in a non-contact jersey on Friday, according to The Athletic’s David Lombardi. We’ll look for an update on Mitchell on Sunday morning. Vikings-49ers doesn’t kick off until 4:25 pm ET. RB JaMycal Hasty (ankle) has been ruled out again.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (finger) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Jaguars. With RB JaMycal Hasty (ankle) also out, Jeff Wilson, Kyle Juszczyk and Trey Sermon will handle backfield duties. Wilson should see the majority of the work and is a solid RB2 play. WR Deebo Samuel could also see a handful of carries again.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (finger) is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game vs. the Jaguars. So much for that early-week optimism after Mitchell’s Tuesday finger surgery. RB JaMycal Hasty (ankle) is out for Week 11, leaving San Francisco with RBs Jeff Wilson and Trey Sermon. Sermon might actually get on the field for the first time since Week 5, but Wilson should operate as the clear lead back. He’s a RB2 with upside.

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan confirmed on Wednesday that RB Trey Sermon remains behind Elijah Mitchell and Jeff Wilson on the depth chart. “Trey had an opportunity (earlier this season) when guys got hurt and I thought he got better in each game with that. But he didn’t do enough for us to put him ahead of Elijah or Jeff," Shanahan said. Sermon could get some touches this weekend if Mitchell's finger injury keeps him out, but Wilson would be the 49ers RB to use in fantasy lineups.
