        Jaylen Warren Hurts Left Ankle

        10:08pm UTC 11/16/25

Steelers RB Jaylen Warren injured his left ankle in the third quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Bengals. He briefly returned but didn't get another touch the rest of the way. RB Kenneth Gainwell wound up having a big day in the passing game, catching seven of eight targets for 81 yards and two scores. He mustered just 24 yards on nine carries. RB Kaleb Johnson mixed in for 15 yards on five carries. We'll look for more on Warren's injury. His absence would put Gainwell in the RB2 mix.

        12:28pm UTC 10/17/25

Steelers RB Jaylen Warren carried 16 times for 127 yards in Thursday night's loss to the Bengals. It was the second-most carries and second-most rushing yards of his career. Warren added another 31 yards on four catches, tying for third on the team with five targets (15% share). Warren consistently found big running lanes off tackle. He had a long run of 37 yards and three other runs of 10+ yards.

Kaleb Johnson Showing Signs of Life?

        4:27am UTC 10/13/25

Steelers Rookie RB Kaleb Johnson went 6-15-0. The stat line was uninspiring, but Johnson did receive the same number of carries as backup RB Kenneth Gainwell. Three of Johnson’s carries came in the fourth quarter, but his other three were sprinkled in throughout the first half. He certainly isn’t usable yet, but the Steelers may continue to ramp Johnson up and give him touches.

        4:22am UTC 9/29/25

Steelers RB Kenneth Gainwell took over the starting RB duties with Jaylen Warren out this week with a calf injury. Gainwell proved effective with a 19-99-2 rushing stat line while also catching all six of his targets for 35 yards. He was surprisingly efficient averaging 5.2 yards per carry, carving up the Vikings defense.

        Jaylen Warren INACTIVE

        12:09pm UTC 9/28/25

Steelers RB Jaylen Warren (knee) is inactive for this morning’s game vs. the Vikings in Dublin. It’s a surprise after he got in three limited practices this week and was expected to play. Warren’s absence leaves Kenneth Gainwell, Kaleb Johnson, and Trey Sermon in Pittsburgh’s backfield. Pittsburgh has not trusted Johnson with many snaps so far, while Sermon was just elevated from the practice squad. That leaves Gainwell as the favorite to operate as lead back. He’s a viable RB3 or Flex play in Week 4 fantasy lineups. We'll see if Johnson can build any momentum in this one. He remains worth stashing in fantasy leagues of 12+ teams.

Update: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Warren "did not feel right after Saturday’s practice and the Steelers decided to hold him out today." NFL Network's Ian Rapoport adds that Warren suffered this knee injury in practice this week. He gets a well-timed Week 5 bye. We'll see if he can make it back for Week 6.

Jaylen Warren Questionable For Week 4

        5:11pm UTC 9/26/25

Steelers RB Jaylen Warren (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday morning’s game vs. the Vikings in Dublin. Warren got in three limited practices this week, so we’re expecting him to play. If not, Kenneth Gainwell would be the best bet for touches in Pittsburgh’s backfield, while Kaleb Johnson might be forced to get involved. We’ll keep you updated on Warren’s status.

Kaleb Johnson Nearly Invisible in Steelers’ Week 1 Backfield

        5:31am UTC 9/8/25

Steelers RB Kaleb Johnson was a non-factor in Week 1, logging just two snaps with one route, one carry, and -2 yards. Kenneth Gainwell surprisingly led the backfield with 29 snaps, while starter Jaylen Warren was close with 25 and led the team with 11 carries. The usage shows Johnson has ground to make up to catch Gainwell on the depth chart.

Kaleb Johnson Still Developing as a Receiver

        6:32pm UTC 8/15/25

Steelers rookie RB Kaleb Johnson still needs to develop in pass protection and as a receiver, according to Steelers Beat Writer Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Fittipaldo stated that the Steelers don’t trust Johnson in those aspects yet. HC Mike Tomlin has also called Johnson out by name as a player he is watching in the second preseason game.

Steelers Secure a Potential Starter in Kaleb Johnson

        2:18am UTC 4/26/25

The Steelers selected Iowa RB Kaleb Johnson in Round 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft. Johnson led Iowa in rushing as a true freshman in 2022, showing his grinding skills between the tackles. He ran 151 times for 779 yards and six TDs. After an ankle injury slowed him down in 2023, he enjoyed an exceptional year in 2024 on a struggling Iowa offense. His great vision and contact balance led to 240 rushes for 1,537 yards and 21 TDs on the ground. Johnson is the typical Hawkeye RB, consistently churning his feet to pick up additional yardage. He also leads the class in rush yards over expected per attempt for his career, picking up an additional yard per rush over expected. Johnson could eventually become a three-down NFL back if he can develop as a pass catcher. He’s simply not a burner, and that predictably showed up at the NFL Combine with his 4.57 forty time.

Kaleb Johnson Performs As Expected at NFL Combine

        9:48pm UTC 3/1/25

On a day where so many RBs exceeded expectations, former Iowa Hawkeye RB Kaleb Johnson just did as expected. He ran a 4.57 40-yard dash at 224 pounds. He also tied for the worst 10-yard split of the day for a RB at 1.62. Despite the average 40-yard dash, Johnson is still expected to be a top-100 NFL Draft selection.
