Josh Dobbs Will Start Week 18

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday that QB Josh Dobbs will start this weekend's game vs. the Cardinals. QB Brock Purdy will miss the game with his right elbow injury, and San Francisco evidently saw enough of QB Brandon Allen earlier this year. Dobbs has flashed some fantasy upside in the past, most recently last year with the Cardinals and Vikings, finishing as a top-12 fantasy QB in six of his 12 full games. With rushing ability, a nice group of weapons, and a strong offensive scheme, Dobbs is an interesting play this week in superflex leagues and DFS.

49ers QB Brock Purdy injured his right elbow late in Monday night's loss to the Lions. HC Kyle Shanahan said afterward that the team believes it's a nerve issue but that Purdy is scheduled for more tests on Tuesday. Shanahan was non-committal on Purdy's availability for this weekend's finale vs. the Cardinals. Considering San Francisco has nothing to play for, there's a good chance it's QB Josh Dobbs at the controls on Sunday. In a good scheme with plenty of weapons and rushing ability, Dobbs would be in play as a QB2 and in DFS.

49ers QB Brock Purdy (shoulder) is active for tonight’s game vs. the Bills. He had a good week by all accounts, progressing to a full practice on Friday. There’s still elevated risk to using Purdy in fantasy lineups with the throwing shoulder issue, though. And the spot is tough against the Bills’ ninth-ranked QB defense in wintery Buffalo. Purdy is not a recommended QB1 play – but his return is good news for San Francisco’s skill-position players. QB Brandon Allen is inactive as the emergency third QB tonight, leaving QB Josh Dobbs as the backup.

49ers QB Brock Purdy is "day to day" with soreness in his right (throwing) shoulder, HC Kyle Shanahan said Monday. Shanahan said the soreness is from a hit Purdy took in the Week 11 loss to the Seahawks. This doesn't sound like a serious injury, but a throwing shoulder injury on a QB is always worth monitoring closely. QB Brandon Allen is listed with the second team on San Francisco's depth chart; Joshua Dobs with the third team.

Per Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Vikings will be making a change at the QB position in Week 15. Joshua Dobbs is being sent to the bench after four starts and will be replaced by backup Nick Mullens. This news doesn't come as much of a surprise, considering Dobbs' recent struggles and the fact that he was yanked in the fourth quarter of Sunday's contest vs. the Raiders. From a fantasy perspective, Mullens doesn't bring the same rushing ability to the table as Dobbs did and shouldn't be considered a lineup option outside of deep 2QB/superflex leagues. Check out where he appears in our current QB rankings.
