Bucs activate DB ahead of Monday Night Football

The Buccaneers have activated DB Logan Ryan from IR. He hasn't played since Week 4 because of a foot injury, and was losing playing time when last we saw him. But the veteran looks like he'll have to start Monday night's game against the Saints. Tampa Bay's starting safeties Antoine Winfield Jr. and Mike Edwards are both doubtful. That likely leaves Ryan and Keanu Neal as starters in a secondary that figures to be more vulnerable deep.

As expected, the Buccaneers have re-signed DB Logan Ryan. They released the vet earlier this week to leave room for C Ryan Jensen on the regular-season roster so he could be designated to return from IR. It looks like Ryan will come in behind S Antoine Winfield Jr. and S Mike Edwards in playing time.

The Buccaneers are releasing S Logan Ryan, but multiple reports say they expect to re-sign him. Tampa needs a spot on the regular-season roster for C Ryan Jensen so they can put him on IR but with eligibility to return during the year. Because Ryan is a veteran, he's not subject to waivers and can thus choose to wait and re-sign with the team. We'll watch to confirm, but we're expecting Ryan to return and start for the Bucs.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Logan Ryan has agreed to terms with the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay still has its top 3 CBs from last year -- Carlton Davis, Sean Murphy-Bunting and Jamel Dean -- under contract. So Ryan's most obvious fit would be at safety, where the team watched Jordan Whitehead walk in free agency. We'll watch for confirmation, though, as Ryan could just settle in as a swing/rotational player. Mike Edwards is the potential incumbent candidate for the safety vacancy.

Giants DB Logan Ryan seemed to indicate via Twitter Thursday that the team is releasing him. It's a salary-cutting move for a guy who had a $3 million guarantee set to trigger, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Ryan spent the past 2 years as a full-timer for the Giants, seeing action at safety and corner. We wouldn't be surprised to see the 31-year-old land a gig elsewhere, but Ryan is no lock to do so.
