Maxx Crosby Expected to Miss Rest of Season

Maxx Crosby Expected to Miss Rest of Season

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Raiders Edge Maxx Crosby needs arthroscopic surgery on the ankle injury that has already knocked him out for Week 15. Crosby's expected to miss the rest of the season.

Raiders Edge Maxx Crosby, DT Christian Wilkins, and Edge Tyree Wilson are active for today's game against the Panthers. Crosby and Wilson were expected to play, whereas Wilkins reportedly looked more questionable. That could limit his snap count vs. usual, but Wilkins should probably be in most IDP lineups as planned at this stage in the Week 3 slate.

The Raiders list Edge Maxx Crosby as questionable for Sunday's game against the Panthers, but it doesn't sound like you need to worry about his availability. According to Levi Damien of Raiders Wire, HC Antonio Pierce said Friday: "He hasn't missed any practice. He hasn't missed a snap, and I don't expect him missing Sunday, either." Plan to have Crosby in your IDP lineups. Edge Tyree Wilson (knee) is also questionable but expected to play after putting in a full Friday practice. DT Christian Wilkins appears truly questionable with a knee injury that limited his practice all week. We'll check his status Sunday. The Raiders ruled out LB Divine Deablo (oblique, concussion). That makes Luke Masterson a starter.

The Raiders have ruled Edge Malcolm Koonce out for Sunday's opener against the Chargers because of a knee injury he suffered in Thursday's practice. HC Antonio Pierce refused to give any more details about the injury while talking to the media Friday. We'll see whether this issue will sideline Koonce beyond Week 1. His absence obviously helps the Chargers offfense, though not enough to alter our Week 1 rankings. It should also mean a start for either Janarius Robinson or 2023 first-round pick Tyree Wilson. If Wilson doesn't play meaningful snaps in this game, it'll be a pretty bad sign for his 2024 outlook (and beyond).

The Raiders selected Edge Tyree Wilson with the seventh pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Wilson’s college career started slowly, with a redshirt season and transfer from Texas A&M to Texas Tech before he became a starter. He broke out over the past two seasons, totaling 27.5 tackles for loss and 14 sacks over that span. Wilson was on pace for easily his best college campaign in 2022 before a foot fracture cost him the final three games. That recovery will be worth watching for his 2023 IDP outlook. He goes to a Las Vegas defense without an immediate starting need on the edge. Bet on Wilson working into the rotation with Maxx Crosby and Chandler Jones initially, with a chance to take playing time from Jones this year. Don't be surprised if the rookie starts slowly, though.
