Our Thoughts

Ben Sinnott's Preseason Player Analysis

Bottom Line

We’re more intrigued by Sinnott in dynasty.

He has a young, talented QB to grow alongside. And questions at WR – at least in the short-term – supply an easier path to earning targets.

But if Zach Ertz stays healthy this fall, it’s tough to see Sinnott emerging as a reliable option.

View the rookie as a possible in-season pickup -- and a potential TE1 come 2025.

What We Learned Last Year

  • Sinnott spent four years at Kansas State.
  • He started all 26 games over the past two seasons, tallying 80-1,123-10.
  • In 2023, he posted his best season to date.
    • Among 32 TEs with 40+ targets, he ranked eighth in yards per catch, 20th in catch rate, fifth in yards per route run, and fifth in PFF receiving grade.
  • Last year, he tallied four grabs of 40+ yards.
    • Sinnott’s average depth of target (aDOT) was on the high side for a TE at 10.1 yards.

What to Expect in 2024

  • Sinnott crushed the NFL Combine with a 4.68-second 40 time, a 40-inch vertical, and elite 3-cone and short shuttle marks.
    • He earned a top-end Relative Athletic Score (9.73).
  • The Commanders took him with the 53rd overall pick.
    • He was the second TE drafted, behind only Brock Bowers.
  • He joins a Washington squad set to break in Round 1 QB Jayden Daniels and new OC Kliff Kingsbury.
    • Kingsbury flamed out after four years in Arizona. TEs combined for a ho-hum 15.3% target share during his time with the Cardinals.
  • Washington returns a WR1 in Terry McLaurin. The depth chart brings some questions behind him, though.
    • WR Jahan Dotson took a step back in ‘23.
    • WR Luke McCaffrey arrives as a surprise Round 3 pick.
    • TE Zach Ertz signed a low-cost one-year deal. He might be entering his final NFL season at 34 (in November).
    • RB Austin Ekeler joins the club as a proven pass catcher. But he's now 29.
  • Washington led the NFL in pass attempts last year, but expect that number to decline with Kingsbury and Daniels.
