Panthers WR Diontae Johnson was only able to bring in two of his six targets for 19 yards in the Panthers 47-10 loss against the New Orleans Saints. He was second on the team in targets behind rookie Xavier Legette.
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
The entire Panthers offense was a mess in this game, getting behind early and never able to bounce back.
QB Bryce Young threw the ball 30 times, but he only completed 13 passes in the entire game. Johnson is a WR who requires volume to produce in PPR, and the Panthers passing game just isn't a volume unit right now.
Young looks to still be developing as he had a few passes to Johnson off the mark, unable to be caught.
For Johnson to be a startable WR3, he will need the Panthers offense to be better to extend drives allowing for more targets and potential scores.
The Panthers draw the Chargers next week, who did have a weak secondary last year that could be exploited. It is a nice bounce back spot for Johnson, but trusting the Panthers offense for fantasy moving forward is a poor decision.
It might be best to wait until they show anything moving forward before trusting in Johnson again.
