The Colts have ruled WR Michael Pittman Jr. out for Sunday's game against the Bills. He's officially listed with back and finger injuries and has missed practice all week. The back issue seems to be what's keeping him out this week, though. Pittman returned to last week's game after dislocating the finger.
That seems more worrisome than if the finger were this week's primary issue. Pittman has been dealing with the back injury since Week 6, when early reports called him an IR candidate.
Pittman instead continued to play his normal role up until losing a bit of time to the finger dislocation in Week 9.
The Colts still have three more games after Buffalo before the Week 14 bye. We'll see where Pittman and the team go from here.
WR Josh Downs becomes the easy best bet among Colts for targets this weekend (and longer if Pittman remains out).
WR Alec Pierce remains the starter at the other outside spot. He gains target-share upside but has been a limited producer all year.
Rookie WR Adonai Mitchell is probably the biggest relative winner, because he should step into Pittman's starting role.
Tough to know what we can expect on the target and production front, though. He has just one game this season with more than 2 receptions and played a season-low 5 snaps last week.
