        Jonnu Smith Headed to Pittsburgh?

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Dolphins have "had trade discussions" with the Steelers about TE Jonnu Smith.

        What They're Saying

Schefter: "Those talks came after Smith expressed an interest in reworking his deal that is scheduled to pay him $4.8 million this season. With Smith seeking a new contract, Miami has sought a trade partner. ... Smiths' preference, per sources, is to stay in Miami under a reworked deal."

ESPN's Field Yates: "Steelers OC Arthur Smith LOVES Jonnu Smith. He had him as a young player in Tennessee and then again with Atlanta."

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

It's important to start with the reminder that this is just a report of trade talks between the teams, not necessarily an impending move.

That said, if Miami's response to an attempted contract renegotiation is to seek a trade, then it's not hard to envision a move taking place.

Smith wound up just TE17 in PPR points per game with Arthur Smith's 2023 Falcons -- despite a surprisingly productive first half of the season that placed him among the position's top 12.

He might face an even tougher challenge for targets in Pittsburgh, with Pat Freiermuth on hand as a more traditional TE than Kyle Pitts was in Atlanta.

There's room for pass catchers in an offense that suddenly counts Calvin Austin III as its incumbent No. 2 WR. But don't expect big fantasy value if Smith moves.

        Other Winners & Losers

Smith's departure from Miami would remove last year's No. 2 target-collector. Smith drew a target on 18.8% of Dolphins pass attempts and finished top 4 among TEs across fantasy formats.

Malik Washington, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and TE Julian Hill could see target spikes if Smith were to leave.

That departure would also likely help the target availability for Miami RBs.

        Best Ball Impact

It's best to avoid drafting Smith at his TE6 best ball ADP while we wait for this situation to sort out.
