The Perfect Draft: 10-Team Non-PPR (Updated Aug. 30)

You should go into every fantasy draft with a general plan.

Of course, you’ll need to be able to adjust throughout the draft and pounce on value wherever it presents itself. That’s where the dynamic MVP Board with Suggested Picks comes in.

But building a round-by-round strategy beforehand certainly helps. That’s exactly what we’re doing with the Perfect Draft series — using the MVP Board and ADP to get an idea of where the value will be in each round.

This is the 10-Team Non-PPR Perfect Draft. Each strategy guide assumes 16-round drafts and starting lineups of 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 Flex, 1 K and 1 DEF. The MVP Board will help you adjust your strategy if your league settings are different.

Note: August 30 updates are in bold.

        Pick 1 or 2

        Round 1

        QBs:

        RBs: Todd Gurley, Le’Veon Bell

        WRs:

        TEs:

Your job is easy. Take 1 of Gurley or Bell -- we have Gurley just ahead -- and move along.

        Rounds 2 and 3

        QBs:

RBs: Joe Mixon, Devonta Freeman, Jordan Howard

        WRs: A.J. Green, Mike Evans

        TEs: Rob Gronkowski

Gronk's TD scoring prowess would be hard to pass up here.

If he's gone, aim for Mixon and a WR. Starting Gurley-Gronk-Mixon would be ideal.

        Rounds 4 and 5

        QBs:

RBs: Kenyan Drake, Lamar Miller, Mark Ingram

WRs: Amari Cooper, Doug Baldwin, Allen Robinson, Demaryius Thomas, Chris Hogan

        TEs: Zach Ertz

Cooper's a stretch to make it this far. But if he does, snatch him up.

Then turn your attention to the RBs, where even adding an RB3 through this point is advisable. Miller's built some buzz of late, if for no other reason than D'Onta Foreman's potential to miss regular season games (Achilles).

        Rounds 6 and 7

        QBs:

RBs: Dion Lewis, Jamaal Williams, Rex Burkhead, Tevin Coleman

        WRs: Sammy Watkins, Corey Davis

        TEs: Greg Olsen

We're still waiting on QBs in favor of the other 3 positions.

Lewis doesn't profile as an obvious non-PPR fit, but he should see double digit touches each week in an emerging offense.

Watkins vs. Davis might come down to roster construction. Perhaps Watkins' weekly upside is a bit higher, but Davis projects for more consistency and brings greater breakout appeal.

Don't count on Olsen making it this far, but he's a strong option if he drops.

        Rounds 8 and 9

        QBs: Andrew Luck

RBs: Tevin Coleman, Carlos Hyde, Marlon Mack, Chris Carson

WRs: Emmanuel Sanders, Michael Crabtree, Randall Cobb, Robby Anderson, Nelson Agholor

        TEs: Delanie Walker, Jordan Reed

Sanders and Crabtree bring value in volume. Crabtree's been a particularly effective red zone weapon in recent seasons and fills a need for Baltimore.

        Rounds 10 and 11

QBs: Andrew Luck, Marcus Mariota, Patrick Mahomes

RBs: Tarik Cohen, Chris Thompson, Duke Johnson, Bilal Powell, Gio Bernard

WRs: Robert Woods, Nelson Agholor, Kelvin Benjamin

TEs: Jack Doyle, David Njoku, Tyler Eifert

Here's a fine spot to consider addressing QB. Luck carries a monster ceiling following an offseason that brought an upgraded coaching staff and O-line.

Agholor's outlook brightens following news that Alshon Jeffery will miss the first 2+ games (shoulder). Agholor needs to shake a lower-body injury himself, though. No matter who's playing QB, we've seen that this Philly offense is led by one of the game's best play-callers/game-planners.

Eifert's injury woes are well documented. But he has the type of TD-scoring profile to play well in a non-PPR format. You'd simply be wise to invest in another TE.

        Rounds 12 and 13

        QBs: Marcus Mariota, Alex Smith

        RBs: Latavius Murray, Gio Bernard

WRs: Tyrell Williams, Cameron Meredith, Mike Williams, Kenny Golladay, Tyler Lockett

        TEs: Jack Doyle, George Kittle

A healthy Corey Davis and an upgraded coach staff has us believing in Mariota as a back-end QB1. He's a solid option to wait on.

Each of the WRs here present big-play and scoring upside. TE turns up a "safe" option (Doyle) and a breakout candidate in Kittle.

        Rounds 14-16

        QBs: Alex Smith

RBs: Austin Ekeler, James Conner, Jordan Wilkins

WRs: John Brown, Kenny Golladay, Chris Godwin, DeSean Jackson, Tyler Lockett

        TEs: Cameron Brate

Smith's an ideal QB2 who you can spot start when the matchup's right.

Wilkins pops as an under-the-radar rookie. If Marlon Mack struggles to return from a hamstring injury, Wilkins could carry early-season value.

Grab your kicker and defense with your last 2 picks. You’ll likely be playing matchups at both positions throughout the season.

The Ravens (vs. Bills), Lions (vs. Jets) and Saints (vs. Winston-less Bucs) are intriguing Week 1 plays. At kicker, Wil Lutz, Matt Prater and Graham Gano each enter solid Week 1 matchups at home.

        Picks 3 or 4

        Round 1

        QBs:

RBs: Todd Gurley, Le’Veon Bell, Ezekiel Elliott, David Johnson

        WRs:

        TEs:

Gurley-Bell will go 1-2 in the vast majority of drafts. If not, snag the faller.

We'd be happy to land either of the other backs here -- especially Elliott, who we project for a league-high 326 rushes.

        Round 2

        QBs:

RBs: Joe Mixon, Devonta Freeman, Jordan Howard

WRs: Michael Thomas, Keenan Allen, A.J. Green

        TEs: Rob Gronkowski

Your MVP Board will demand that you to take Gronk here. But if you prefer to wait at TE, target Mixon -- our Breakout Player -- over the WRs.

        Round 3

        QBs:

        RBs:

WRs: Mike Evans, Adam Thielen, T.Y. Hilton, Tyreek Hill

        TEs:

We used to like Derrius Guice in this spot, but his ACL tear obviously changes that.

A trio of Elliott-Gronk-Evans would load you with upside and provide a balanced start.

        Round 4

        QBs

RBs: Kenyan Drake, Jay Ajayi, Lamar Miller

WRs: Amari Cooper, Doug Baldwin, Allen Robinson, Demaryius Thomas

        TEs:

Cooper would be ideal here, but an early 4th-round ADP suggests he won't make it.

        Round 5

        QBs:

RBs: Royce Freeman, Marshawn Lynch, Rex Burkhead

WRs: Allen Robinson, Marvin Jones, Chris Hogan, Larry Fitzgerald

        TEs:

Now's a good time to attack WR. Hogan's upside is particularly enticing. Fitz brings safety but little big-play potential.

We're still waiting at QB, a position where later-round values remain present.

        Round 6

        QBs:

        RBs: Jamaal Williams, Dion Lewis

WRs: Sammy Watkins, Corey Davis, Marquise Goodwin

        TEs: Greg Olsen

Flag Davis on your MVP Board as a top target. We like his Breakout potential in what looks like a much-improved offense.

Olsen's also a discounted TE option if he drops to this point. He missed games last year for the first time since 2007, but all indications are he's back to 100%.

        Round 7

        QBs:

RBs: Tevin Coleman, Kerryon Johnson, Chris Carson

WRs: Emmanuel Sanders, Michael Crabtree, Will Fuller

        TEs:

Coleman profiles as a flex option with Devonta Freeman healthy. He'd be a solid RB2 if Freeman were to go down.

Sanders and Crabtree bring value in volume. Both guys should push for 120+ targets.

        Round 8

        QBs:

        RBs: Tevin Coleman, Chris Carson

WRs: Emmanuel Sanders, Michael Crabtree, Will Fuller

        TEs:

Drew Brees is an option here if available, but ideally you'll use the first 8 or 9 rounds to build depth elsewhere.

        Round 9

        QBs: Andrew Luck, Matt Stafford

        RBs: Carlos Hyde, Marlon Mack

WRs: Robert Woods, Jamison Crowder, Nelson Agholor, Kenny Stills, Kelvin Benjamin

        TEs: Jordan Reed

The Lions should boast an improved running game this fall. But the centerpiece of the offense remains Stafford, who'll again work with a deep group of receivers.

Woods' value took a hit with the arrival of Brandin Cooks. But this offense lives in 3-WR sets and has a clear QB/HC combo on the rise. He's a viable WR3 and a strong WR4.

We can't expect 16 games from Reed, but if healthy, he could provide top-5 production. We like the fit alongside new QB Alex Smith.

        Round 10

        QBs: Marcus Mariota, Patrick Mahomes

RBs: Chris Thompson, Tarik Cohen, Duke Johnson, Gio Bernard

WRs: Randall Cobb, Kelvin Benjamin, Nelson Agholor

        TEs: Jack Doyle, David Njoku

The WRs here look enticing, with Benjamin locked into 100+ targets and Agholor poised to benefit with Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) set to miss 2+ games. Cobb's the clear-cut #2 WR alongside a healthy Aaron Rodgers. We're not buying the recent trade talk surrounding Cobb.

        Round 11

        QBs: Marcus Mariota

RBs: Gio Bernard, Rob Kelley, Latavius Murray

WRs: Cameron Meredith, Mike Williams, Kenny Golladay

        TEs: Jack Doyle, David Njoku

We've already mentioned that we're optimistic on Tennessee's offense. That certainly trickles down to Mariota, who enters a crucial 4th season.

Each of the 3 WRs here present scoring upside. A healthy Meredith is intriguing as a potential #2 option for Drew Brees.

        Round 12

        QBs: Alex Smith

RBs: Gio Bernard, Matt Breida, Ty Montgomery

WRs: Tyrell Williams, John Brown, Kenny Golladay, Chris Godwin, Michael Gallup

        TEs: Cameron Brate

Consider Smith an ideal QB2 if you're in need. Otherwise, consider where you're thin and fill in.

        Round 13

        QBs: Alex Smith

        RBs: Jordan Wilkins

WRs: Josh Doctson, Tyrell Williams, John Brown, Kenny Golladay, Chris Godwin, DeSean Jackson, Tyler Lockett

        TEs: Cameron Brate

Aim for upside with these next 2 picks.

        Round 14

        QBs: Mitchell Trubisky

        RBs: Austin Ekeler, James Conner

        WRs: DeSean Jackson, Anthony Miller

        TEs: Cameron Brate, Austin Hooper

Don't feel the need to secure a backup TE -- especially if you own a high-end option. You'll likely find viable replacements when the time comes in-season.

        Rounds 15 and 16

Grab your kicker and defense with your last 2 picks. You’ll likely be playing matchups at both positions throughout the season.

The Ravens (vs. Bills), Lions (vs. Jets) and Saints (vs. Winston-less Bucs) are intriguing Week 1 plays. At kicker, Wil Lutz, Matt Prater and Graham Gano each enter solid Week 1 matchups at home.

        Picks 5 or 6

        Round 1

        QBs:

RBs: Ezekiel Elliott, David Johnson, Saquon Barkley, Alvin Kamara

        WRs:

        TEs:

The first 2 names listed probably won't last to this point. So target Barkley first; then Kamara

        Round 2

        QBs:

        RBs: Dalvin Cook, Joe Mixon

        WRs: Michael Thomas, Davante Adams

        TEs: Rob Gronkowski

Gronk fits a non-PPR format so well, and he gives you a nice edge over the field at TE. He's the suggested pick over the others.

        Round 3

        QBs:

        RBs:

WRs: Mike Evans, Adam Thielen, T.Y. Hilton, Tyreek Hill, Amari Cooper

        TEs: Travis Kelce

Evans likely won't drop this far, but if he does -- largely due to Jameis Winston's suspension -- we'd grab him.

        Round 4

        QBs

RBs: Kenyan Drake, Alex Collins, Jay Ajayi, Lamar Miller

WRs: Amari Cooper, Allen Robinson, Doug Baldwin, Demaryius Thomas

        TEs:

Cooper would be ideal here, but don't expect him to be here. His ADP resides early in Round 4.

So, turn your attention to Robinson or the RBs -- even if you've already rostered 2.

        Round 5

        QBs:

RBs: Royce Freeman, Marshawn Lynch, Rex Burkhead

WRs: Allen Robinson, Marvin Jones, Chris Hogan, Larry Fitzgerald

        TEs:

Now's a good time to attack WR. Hogan's upside is particularly enticing. Fitz brings safety but little big-play potential.

We're still waiting on QB, a position where later-round values remain present.

        Round 6

        QBs:

        RBs: Jamaal Williams, Dion Lewis

        WRs: Sammy Watkins, Corey Davis

        TEs: Greg Olsen

Flag Davis on your MVP Board as a top target. We like his Breakout potential in what looks like a much-improved offense.

Olsen's also a discounted TE option if he drops to this point. He missed games last year for the first time since 2007, but all indications are he's back to 100%.

        Round 7

        QBs:

RBs: Tevin Coleman, Kerryon Johnson, Chris Carson

WRs: Emmanuel Sanders, Michael Crabtree, Marquise Goodwin, Will Fuller

        TEs:

Coleman profiles as a flex option with Devonta Freeman healthy. He'd be a solid RB2 if Freeman were to go down.

Sanders and Crabtree bring value in volume. Both guys should push for 120+ targets.

        Round 8

        QBs:

        RBs: Tevin Coleman, Chris Carson

WRs: Emmanuel Sanders, Michael Crabtree, Will Fuller

        TEs:

Drew Brees is an option here if available, but ideally you'll use the first 8 or 9 rounds to build depth elsewhere.

        Round 9

        QBs: Andrew Luck, Matt Stafford

RBs: Carlos Hyde, Marlon Mack, Chris Thompson, Tarik Cohen, Bilal Powell

WRs: Robert Woods, Jamison Crowder, Kenny Stills, Kelvin Benjamin

RBs: Chris Thompson, Tarik Cohen, Duke Johnson, Bilal Powell, Gio Bernard

WRs: Randall Cobb, Kelvin Benjamin, Nelson Agholor

        TEs: Jack Doyle, David Njoku

The WRs here look enticing, with Benjamin locked into 100+ targets and Agholor set to benefit with Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) poised to miss 2+ games. Cobb's the clear-cut #2 WR alongside a healthy Aaron Rodgers.

Powell's gained traction after a strong preseason and encouraging 1st-team usage. He's back in play as a mid-round pick.

        Round 11

        QBs: Marcus Mariota

RBs: Gio Bernard, Rob Kelley, Latavius Murray

WRs: Mike Williams, Kenny Golladay, John Brown

        TEs: Jack Doyle, David Njoku

We've already mentioned that we're optimistic on Tennessee's offense. That certainly trickles down to Mariota, who enters a crucial 4th season.

Each of the 3 WRs here present scoring upside. A healthy Williams is intriguing as a potential #2 option for Philip Rivers.

        Round 12

        QBs: Alex Smith

RBs: Gio Bernard, Matt Breida, Ty Montgomery

WRs: Tyrell Williams, John Brown, Kenny Golladay, Chris Godwin, Michael Gallup

        TEs: Cameron Brate

Consider Smith an ideal QB2 if you're in need. Otherwise, consider where you're thin and fill in.

        Round 13

        QBs: Alex Smith

        RBs: Jordan Wilkins

WRs: Josh Doctson, Tyrell Williams, John Brown, Kenny Golladay, Chris Godwin, DeSean Jackson, Tyler Lockett

        TEs: Cameron Brate

Aim for upside with these next 2 picks.

        Round 14

        QBs: Mitchell Trubisky

RBs: Jordan Wilkins, Austin Ekeler, James Conner

        WRs: DeSean Jackson, Anthony Miller

        TEs: Austin Hooper

        Picks 7 or 8

        Round 1

        QBs:

RBs: Saquon Barkley, Alvin Kamara, Leonard Fournette, Melvin Gordon

        WRs: Antonio Brown

        TEs:

You can roll with Brown if you really value safety. But given the non-PPR format, the MVP Board will have you opting for 1 of the backs.

        Round 2

        QBs:

RBs: Joe Mixon, Devonta Freeman, Jordan Howard

WRs: Michael Thomas, Keenan Allen, A.J. Green

        TEs: Rob Gronkowski

Gronk and his 76 career TDs play beautifully in this format. He's very likely your top Suggested Pick ahead of Mixon.

        Round 3

        QBs:

RBs: LeSean McCoy, Alex Collins, Jay Ajayi

WRs: Adam Thielen, T.Y. Hilton, Tyreek Hill

        TEs: Travis Kelce

Our Breakout Pick -- Joe Mixon -- won't make it this far. But you'll certainly have a shot at 1 of the other RBs listed.

A trio of Fournette-Gronkowski-Thielen would give you a nice foundation to build from.

        Round 4

        QBs:

RBs: Kenyan Drake, Alex Collins, Jay Ajayi

WRs: Amari Cooper, Stefon Diggs, Doug Baldwin, Allen Robinson

        TEs:

Cooper brings enormous upside and should flirt with WR1 totals. He's the pick here if available -- and there's just a 4-point non-PPR drop-off to Diggs; 6 points to Baldwin.

        Round 5

        QBs:

        RBs: Royce Freeman, Marshawn Lynch

WRs: Allen Robinson, Marvin Jones, Chris Hogan, Larry Fitzgerald

        TEs:

That makes this a good time to attack WR. Robinson, Jones and Hogan boast high ceilings. Fitz brings safety but little big-play potential.

We're still waiting at QB, a position where later-round values remain present.

        Round 6

        QBs:

        RBs: Jamaal Williams, Dion Lewis

        WRs: Sammy Watkins, Corey Davis

        TEs: Greg Olsen

Lewis obviously plays best in PPR. But he's a decent bet for 6-8+ weekly rushes -- in addition to his receiving work.

Flag Davis on your MVP Board as a top target. We like his Breakout potential in what looks like a much-improved offense.

Back healthy, Olsen's a worthy value if he drops to this point.

        Round 7

        QBs:

        RBs: Tevin Coleman, Kerryon Johnson

WRs: Sammy Watkins, Emmanuel Sanders, Michael Crabtree, Marquise Goodwin, Will Fuller

        TEs:

Coleman profiles as a flex option with Devonta Freeman healthy. He'd be a solid RB2 if Freeman were to go down.

Sanders and Crabtree bring value in volume. Both guys should push for 120+ targets.

        Round 8

        QBs:

        RBs: Tevin Coleman, Chris Carson

WRs: Emmanuel Sanders, Michael Crabtree, Will Fuller

        TEs:

Drew Brees is an option here if available, but ideally you'll use the first 8 or 9 rounds to build depth elsewhere.

        Round 9

        QBs: Andrew Luck, Matt Stafford

RBs: Carlos Hyde, Marlon Mack, Chris Thompson, Tarik Cohen

WRs: Robert Woods, Jamison Crowder, Kenny Stills, Kelvin Benjamin

The WRs here look enticing, with Benjamin locked into 100+ targets and Agholor set to benefit with Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) poised to miss 2+ games. Cobb's the clear-cut #2 WR alongside a healthy Aaron Rodgers.

        Round 11

        QBs: Marcus Mariota

RBs: Gio Bernard, Rob Kelley, Latavius Murray

WRs: Cameron Meredith, Mike Williams, Kenny Golladay

        TEs: Jack Doyle, David Njoku

We've already mentioned that we're optimistic on Tennessee's offense. That certainly trickles down to Mariota, who enters a crucial 4th season.

Each of the 3 WRs here present scoring upside. A healthy Meredith is intriguing as a potential #2 option for Drew Brees.

        Round 12

        QBs: Alex Smith

RBs: Gio Bernard, Matt Breida, Ty Montgomery

WRs: Tyrell Williams, John Brown, Kenny Golladay, Chris Godwin, Michael Gallup

        TEs: Cameron Brate

Consider Smith an ideal QB2 if you're in need. Otherwise, consider where you're thin and fill in.

        Round 13

        QBs: Alex Smith

        RBs: Jordan Wilkins

WRs: Josh Doctson, Tyrell Williams, John Brown, Kenny Golladay, Chris Godwin, DeSean Jackson, Tyler Lockett

        TEs: Cameron Brate

Aim for upside with these next 2 picks.

        Round 14

        QBs: Mitchell Trubisky

RBs: Jordan Wilkins, Austin Ekeler, James Conner

WRs: DeSean Jackson, John Ross, Anthony Miller

        TEs: Austin Hooper

        Picks 9 or 10

        Rounds 1 and 2

        QBs:

RBs: Leonard Fournette, Melvin Gordon, Dalvin Cook

        WRs: DeAndre Hopkins

        TEs: Rob Gronkowski

Here are the only draft spots where the MVP Board won't have Rob Gronkowski as a top suggested pick. Gronk is in play -- but the Board suggests a RB-RB start.

        Rounds 3 and 4

        QBs:

RBs: Kenyan Drake, Alex Collins, Jay Ajayi

WRs: Adam Thielen, Tyreek Hill, Amari Cooper, Allen Robinson, Doug Baldwin, Demaryius Thomas

        TEs: Travis Kelce

Kelce becomes tempting at this point, and he'd be a fine value with an ADP at 3.10.

Elsewhere, consider the workload upside shared by the RBs. Ajayi's perhaps more volatile -- we know HC Doug Pederson likes to mix and match RBs -- but Philly's offense is clearly the best of the 3. Ajayi should push for 8+ scores.

        Rounds 5 and 6

        QBs:

RBs: Royce Freeman, Marshawn Lynch, Jamaal Williams, Dion Lewis

        WRs: Marvin Jones, Corey Davis

        TEs: Greg Olsen

There's plenty to like at RB and WR. But it's also a good time to consider Olsen, who's healthy after a down year.

        Davis brings year-2 breakout appeal.

        Rounds 7 and 8

        QBs:

        RBs: Tevin Coleman, Chris Carson

WRs: Sammy Watkins, Emmanuel Sanders, Michael Crabtree, Nelson Agholor

        TEs: Delanie Walker, Jordan Reed

Unless Drew Brees falls here, we're still going to wait on a QB. This round is littered with volume producers.

Reed brings a monster ceiling, and in the 8th, his injury risk becomes much more acceptable.

        Rounds 9 and 10

        QBs: Andrew Luck, Matt Stafford

RBs: Carlos Hyde, Marlon Mack, Chris Thompson, Tarik Cohen

WRs: Robert Woods, Jamison Crowder, Kelvin Benjamin, Nelson Agholor

        TEs: Jordan Reed

The Lions should boast an improved running game this fall. But the centerpiece of the offense remains Stafford, who'll again work with a deep group of receivers. Luck struggled in Week 2 preseason action, but we still have QB1 expectations once he shakes off the rust.

        Rounds 11 and 12

        QBs: Marcus Mariota

RBs: Gio Bernard, Rob Kelley, Latavius Murray

WRs: Cameron Meredith, Josh Doctson, John Brown, Tyrell Williams, Mike Williams, Kenny Golladay

        TEs: Jack Doyle, David Njoku

We've already mentioned that we're optimistic on Tennessee's offense. That certainly trickles down to Mariota, who enters a crucial 4th season.

Each of the WRs here present scoring upside. A healthy Meredith is intriguing as a potential #2 option for Drew Brees.

        Rounds 13 and 14

        QBs: Alex Smith

RBs: Jordan Wilkins, Austin Ekeler, James Conner

WRs: Josh Doctson, Tyrell Williams, John Brown, Chris Godwin, DeSean Jackson, Tyler Lockett

        TEs: Cameron Brate

Aim for upside with these next 2 picks. Ekeler and Conner bring it as clear handcuffs in great offenses, but we'd typically only consider them if your league allows a deep bench.
