        NFL Snap Counts in 2024

Snaps are foundational for fantasy value.

By looking at trends, we can often make better draft and in-season decisions.

That's the goal today -- to look at NFL snap counts in 2024, account for injuries, coaching changes, and more -- all with an eye toward 2025.

        Let's dive in.

Jordan Mason led this backfield in snap share for the first seven weeks. Shoulder and ankle injuries derailed him from there, and he’s now a restricted free agent.

Perhaps the 49ers roll into the summer with a Christian McCaffrey-Isaac Guerendo duo. But long-time beat writer Matt Barrows wrote this month that RB “seems like” a position of need. Barrows cites 2024 injuries to CMC and Guerendo.

At WR, look for Ricky Pearsall to slide into a hefty role early next season. He played 92% of the snaps in Week 18, while Deebo Samuel will likely play elsewhere. Brandon Aiyuk – coming off an ACL tear – is iffy for Week 1.

Chicago’s ushering in a new staff led by HC Ben Johnson, so 2024 numbers aren’t all that instructive.

Here’s what we know: D’Andre Swift spent three seasons alongside Johnson in Detroit. Johnson held the OC role in one of those seasons – 2023 – and fed Swift 7 carries and 5 targets per game.

Then 27-year-old Jamaal Williams led the backfield with 15.4 carries and .94 targets per game.

Our bet: Chicago not only addresses a clear O-line weakness, but they also add a viable RB. That could be in free agency – or via a loaded RB draft class.

Keenan Allen hits free agency with a stated goal. In a January interview with the Chicago Sun-Times, the veteran said he’d only play for the Chargers, Rams … or Bears.

We’ll see if any of those teams show interest.

        Headshot of Chase Brown

Chase Brown played behind Zack Moss for the first five weeks of the season. From there, Brown finished as the PPR RB7.

Missed time from Moss certainly helped, but he’s widely considered a cut candidate ahead of the final year of his deal.

Now, the question is whether Cincy makes a notable addition at RB. This draft will have day two talents lasting until day three.

If Tee Higgins departs, WR could be another spot that finds fresh talent. Andrei Iosivas hasn’t been a difference-maker through two seasons. Jerome Burton entered the league with character concerns and kept that chatter alive as a rookie.

Cook sat outside the top-25 in RB snap share, yet he ranked as the PPR RB8.

There’s no doubting his talent. But when anyone scores 18 TDs on 239 touches, it’s best to approach his ADP with caution.

Pass catcher was a messy spot for a team that added Amari Cooper mid-season. He ultimately underperfroemd, barely topping a 50% snap share in any game.

Of course, the total pie shrunk with Josh Allen posting multi-year lows in attempts (483), yards (3,731), and TDs (28). We wouldn’t expect a pass-heavy shift in 2025, especially with the return of OC Joe Brady.

Denver’s locked in with Bo Nix.

Beyond that … not so much.

HC Sean Payton loved mixing up his backfield rotations in 2024, and one-two additions are forthcoming.

Note: Javonte Williams is a free agent.

We’ll see if Denver utalizes an in-house answer at WR2. Most likely, though, we’ll see them add a significant WR piece to try and help Nix develop further.

Among the returning WRs, Marvin Mims is a name to watch. He’ll be just 23 in March and emerged as a big-play threat down the stretch.

The Browns promoted TE coach/pass game specialist Tommy Rees to OC. But it’s on GM Andrew Berry to replace talent on offense, especially with Jameis Winston, Nick Chubb, and Elijah Moore scheduled for free agency.

We’d expect Cedric Tillman to remain a top-three WR after flashing in 2024, but there’s still plenty to prove. His season ended with a multi-week concussion.

Jerry Jeudy and David Njoku remain under contract.

Bucky Irving’s snap share stabilized late in the season. He’s the clear RB1 for new OC Josh Gizzard – and a top-12 option in our PPR RB rankings.

After disappointing early on, Jalen McMillan made strides as Chris Godwin’s replacement. The rookie wasn’t flawless, though. He managed just 1.22 yards per route run, caught only 3 of 25 contested opportunities, and tallied a drop rate of 11.4%.

Godwin is set to hit free agency, and there’s reportedly “no chance” of Tampa using the franchise tag.

Trey Benson looked like a potential impact rookie over the summer.

But James Conner remained steady, limiting the rookie to just a 12% snap share. He topped 30% in only one game (Week 2).

Conner and Benson return for 2025. For now, the latter should be viewed as more of a handcuff than a standalone piece.

Michael Wilson and Greg Dortch sucked up 1,254 largely unproductive snaps. Look for GM Monti Ossenfort to pursue an upgrade this offseason.

Dobbins’ 50% snap share could open up if the Chargers seek an upgrade. That’s a strong possibility after the impending free agent missed more time in 2024 (MCL sprain).

Bet on GM Joe Hortiz adding pass catching help, too.

Incoming rookie TE Colston Loveland is popularly mocked to the Chargers at pick No. 22. The Chargers trotted out five different TEs with 100+ snaps last season.

Isiah Pacheco posted an 80% snap share back in Week 1. A broken fibula soon halted any momentum, and he failed to recapture it upon returning in Week 13.

Perhaps offseason rest leads to a more dynamic Pacheco. But fantasy managers should at least prepare for the chance that Kansas City adds backfield talent.

The WR corps turns up more questions than answers.

Rashee Rice is coming off LCL/hamstring surgery and could face a suspension. DeAndre Hopkins and Marquise Brown have expiring contracts.

Xavier Worthy at least looks like a nice hit.

After the season, GM Chris Ballard called out Anthony Richardson’s health woes. 2025 looks like a make or break year for the QB.

TE looks like a position of offseason change. The Colts haven’t had a fantasy-viable option since Eric Ebron (2018), but the draft could bring Penn State TE Tyler Warren at 14th overall.

As you can see, Washington didn’t have a stable WR2 (or WR3) last season.

We fully expect GM Adam Peters to add a WR or two this spring. Dyami Brown and Olamide Zaccheaus are set for free agency, while Luke McCaffrey didn’t show much as a rookie. Even TE Zach Ertz, 34, no longer has a contract.

Per Spotrac, the Commanders have the third-most cap space league wide. So they’ll have the cap space to make a splash (Tee Higgins? Chris Godwin?)

Rico Dowdle’s snap share increased around midseason. He flashed high efficiency across four games with 20+ carries.

Here’s the rub: Dowdle hits the spring as an unrestricted free agent. Dallas could look to bring him back for cheap – and/or add talent via the draft. Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty is commonly mocked to Dallas in Round 1.

The Cowboys could certainly use WR help behind CeeDee Lamb. A big splash is unlikely, though, given their current cap situation.

        Headshot of De'Von Achane

Despite a small frame, De’Von Achane played the eighth-most RB snaps in 2024.

He delivered fantasy value as a receiver with 78 catches. But the second-year pro regressed as a runner, and it wouldn’t surprise us if HC Mike McDaniel shifts some work elsewhere.

Jaylen Wright could fill that gap. However, as a rookie, he topped a 35% snap share only once. Miami released Raheem Mostert in February.

Jonnu Smith was among the biggest fantasy surprises of 2024. His role really picked up after Miami’s bye week, and he should remain on the TE1 map in 2025 drafts.

Saquon Barkley ranked third among RBs in total snaps – and still managed to avoid missing time due to injury.

Kenneth Gainwell might look elsewhere in free agency, so Philly’s RB2 might not be on the roster. 2024 draft pick Will Shipley is an in-house option.

AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert are all on track to return. Jahan Dotson remains under contract for another year, but we know that WR3 spot isn’t one to count on for fantasy production.

First-year OC Zac Robinson wasn’t shy about featuring Bijan Robinson. The former Texas star ranked second in total snaps (861) and snap share.

Expect similar usage in 2025, Bijan’s age 23 season.

Kyle Pitts’ snap shares have long been a topic of conversation. Unfortunately, he peaked in Week 1 with a 96% share. He played less than half of the snaps in five of six games post- bye week.

Perhaps Atlanta tries to trade Pitts. Either way, the contract-year TE is a longshot to sign a new contract.

We know the Giants need a QB. But WR depth looks like a position of need as well.

Darius Slayton heads to free agency after gobbling up a 77% snap share. Jalin Hyatt enters year three after another underwhelming season.

RB, at least, seems like a different story.

After a brief stint as the backup, Tyrone Tracy quickly emerged as the lead back. He hit a 60% snap share in 11 of his final 13 games.

With only 146 college carries under his best, it’s quite possible he’ll reach another level in 2025.

Tank Bigsby's snap count looks relatively low, as he wasn't a passing-down factor. Still, he out-performed Travis Etienne in several key categories:

        • Yards per carry
        • Yards after contact per attempt
        • Rush yards over expected per attempt
        • PFF rush grade

(Skip down to No. 64 at the link above for more 2024 Jags takeaways).

Both RBs are under contract for 2025, but they'll have a clean slate with new HC Liam Coen.

WR is uncertain behind rookie-year stud Brian Thomas Jr. We'll also see if Jacksonville retains Evan Engram.

The Jets are moving on from Aaron Rodgers.

Expect Davante Adams and his 58% snap share to follow Rodgers out the door. Mike Williams – acquired mid-season – removes a 28% share.

New HC Aaron Glenn and OC Tanner Engstrand will look for more out of the TE position, too. Veteran Tyler Conklin, an impending free agent, likely leaves behind a hefty 75% snap share.

The nucleus of this group returns, so we’re not forecasting any drastic changes in terms of usage. Note: New OC John Morton arrives after two seasons as Denver’s pass game coordinator. We’ll look for offseason clues on how he plans to steer this unit.

We’ll also see if Detroit makes any kind of investment at WR3, as Tim Patrick hits free agency. Kalif Raymond has one year remaining on his deal.

So, Josh Jacobs’ demise was greatly exaggerated…

He hit a 50% snap share in all but two games, with one coming in a designed rest spot (Week 18). He ranked fifth among RBs in touches, fueling an RB6 fantasy finish.

All eyes will be on Green Bay’s WR corps this offseason. The position lacked a reliable option in 2024, and now Christian Watson is rehabbing an ACL tear. Romeo Doubs has one year left on his rookie deal.

It didn’t take long for Chuba Hubbard to run circles around Miles Sanders. Hubbard’s snap share peaked at 97% (Week 14), marking one of 11 games with a share north of 70%.

Hubbard signed an in-season extension. Then, we saw Jonathon Brooks sustain another ACL tear. There’s clear RB1 momentum for the veteran – especially if Bryce Young’s progress continues.

New England’s WR corps needs a serious overhaul.

They threw a Round 2 pick at Washington WR Ja’Lynn Polk, but his snap shares fell off a cliff as the season progressed. He caught only 12 of 33 targets for 87 yards.

Fellow rookie Javon Baker didn’t even make the grid above; he played only 90 total snaps (8%). It’s too early to count either guy out – but New England remains a lock to add pass catching help for Drake Maye.

After modest snap shares early on, Vegas quickly ramped up Brock Bowers’ load.

In fact, by season’s end, he ranked second among all TEs in total snaps (956).

There’s no reason for his full-time usage to change under new HC Pete Carroll and OC Chip Kelly.

RB is where we should see a change, as the position group lacks a difference-maker. Vegas ranked last in rushing yards per game (79.8) by a margin of 12. Expect an offseason addition (or two).

A true WR1 could arrive as well. Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan is often mocked to the Raiders with the sixth overall pick.

        Headshot of Kyren Williams

Here’s an undeniable fact: Sean McVay loves Kyren Williams.

Sure, he’s said as much in press conferences and interviews. But he really proved it this past year on the field. Williams set a career high and led all RBs in both total snaps and snap share.

He responded with the fantasy RB7 finish.

Interestingly, Round 3 rookie Blake Corum managed only 3.6 YPC on 58 carries. His snap share: Only 11%.

He looks best left as a handcuff in 2025 drafts.

The Rams have a hole to fill with the anticipated departure of Cooper Kupp. Demarcus Robinson, Tutu Atwell, and Tyler Johnson are scheduled for free agency.

Derrick Henry shoved aside age concerns to play all 17 games. He handled nearly 38 snaps per game.

Expect more of the same in 2025.

The Mark Andrews-Isaiah Likely split made headlines in-season. Andrews held the snap edge in only eight of 16 games together.

He ultimately delivered in fantasy with 11 TDs, but that’ll be tough to repeat. Likely’s ability to earn targets means that Andrews’ volatility should stick around.

Predictably, new HC Kellen Moore wouldn’t commit to QB Derek Carr as his starter. After playing all 17 games in 2023, the former Raider missed seven games in 2024.

At WR, the Saints will welcome the return of Chris Olave (concussion) and Rashid Shaheed (meniscus). But they still could use general pass-catching depth, and that includes TE. Moore could opt to move on from Taysom Hill this spring.

Kenneth Walker missed time with injuries in 2024. But when active, he out-snapped Zach Charbonnet in nine of ten games together.

Both guys remain under contract and will learn new OC Klint Kubiak’s offense.

Tyler Lockett’s snaps (and fantasy production) fell off the map in 2024. He played the clear WR3 role, producing only five top-36 fantasy finishes.

Najee Harris out-snapped Jaylen Warren in eight of fifteen games. Warren held the edge in five of the final seven contests, though.

It might be a moot point, as Harris’ rookie contract is expiring. We wouldn’t be surprised if Pittsburgh seeks a more dynamic option.

They’ll certainly look for more juice in the WR corps. Mike Williams and Van Jefferson will likely sign elsewhere in free agency.

Pat Freiermuth’s targets per route run and snap share mirrored his 2023 output. He’s under contract through the 2028 season.

The Texans will look to replace 1,064 combined snaps from Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell.

Perhaps they make a splash, but we’d expect another target-heavy season for Nico Collins. He sits top-five in our PPR WR rankings.

        Headshot of Tony Pollard

Remember the Tony Pollard-Tyjae Spears debate from the summer?

Well, Pollard out-snapped Spears in all but two games. (Both times, Pollard played through an ankle injury.) The former Cowboy now enters year two of a three-year deal.

Tennessee figures to invest in pass catcher after giving Nick Westbrook-ikhine, Tyler Boyd, and Treylon Burks 1,553 total snaps. The Titans don't have a third round pick but hold two picks in the fourth and fifth rounds.

After an injury-disrupted 2023, Aaron Jones played all 17 games last fall. Only nine RBs played more total snaps.

We’ll see if he returns for 2025, but the Vikings will almost certainly add backfield talent. Jones is now 30.

Minnesota’s WR3 spot figures to remain an unappealing one for fantasy. Nailor enters the final year of his rookie deal after a lopsided 28-414-6 line.
