The 49ers' trade for RB Brian Robinson appeared to cloud the depth chart behind RB Christian McCaffrey. HC Kyle Shanahan cleared that right up after Sunday's preseason finale, calling Robinson the "two back."
Shanahan on Robinson: "We brought him here to be our two back. Always been a big fan of Brian, loved him coming out of college… We were pumped that he was available and we were pumped that we were able to get him.”
RB Isaac Guerendo flashed in a few spot starts last season. But he missed two weeks this month with a shoulder injury (and appeared to aggravate it in the preseason finale).
Robinson is a less exciting player. But he's more established as a pro, with 570 carries over the last three seasons.
Don't expect any 49ers RB to get workhorse volume if McCaffrey misses time this year. But Robinson is the preferred handcuff target in fantasy drafts.
