Aaron Jones Dominates Backfield Work on Light Rushing Day

Vikings RB Aaron Jones rushed for 47 yards as a TD on a team-high nine carries in Sunday's loss to the Ravens. He added 3 receptions for 22 yards among six targets, tying for third on the team in looks. Jones logged half the team's total rushing attempts in a game that found Minnesota pass on more than two-thirds of offensive plays. Jordan Mason rushed a mere four times for 25 yards and caught his lone target for 6 yards.

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

Jones played a season-high 71% of the snaps in Sunday's loss, according to Pro Football Focus. That marked a big change from his roughly 50-50 split with Mason previously, but he might have been heading that way before leaving Week 9 early.

That win over Detroit found Jones playing 24 of 31 first-half snaps before leaving in the third quarter. Sunday's loss to Baltimore found Jones playing 18 of 24 first-half snaps vs. just three for Mason.

The latter got a bit more time in the second half but still trailed Jones 28-13 over that segment.

The loss makes it seem like a Jones-friendly game script, but the Vikings spent most of the first three quarters leading or within 6 points of the visiting Ravens. Minnesota has clearly favored the incumbent over Mason the past two weeks.

Mason still leads Jones in yards after contact and avoided-tackle rate for the season, according to PFF. But Jones has averaged 2.0 yards before contact per carry vs. Mason's 0.4.

Jones also easily leads the passing-down work. He ran 32 routes to Mason's nine against the Ravens.

There's room for Jones to help fantasy teams the rest of the way. Minnesota's strength of schedule looks friendly to RB scoring overall, and negative spots -- such as Week 12 at Green Bay and Week 13 at Seattle -- will favor Jones' skill set over Mason's.
