Hayden Hurst Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst (calf) is "doubtful" to play vs. the Browns this weekend, HC Zac Taylor said Monday. We'll look for further details on Hurst's injury and how long he'll be out. TE Mitchell Wilcox replaced Hurst as Cincinnati's lead TE against the Chiefs but drew just 1 target. Hurst's absence just figures to mean more targets for WRs Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst injured his right calf in the 1st half against the Chiefs. Cincinnati initially deemed him questionable to return but quickly downgraded him to out. We'll see about Hurst's outlook for Week 14 and beyond.

Bengals QB Joe Burrow threw for 270 yards and 1 TD on 59.5% completions in Sunday's win at Tennessee. WR Tee Higgins snagged that lone TD, en route to easily leading the team with 7 catches for 114 yards. TE Hayden Hurst tied Higgins for the target lead (9) and caught 6 for 57 yards. WR Tyler Boyd added just 2 catches for 16 yards. WR Ja'Marr Chase seems to be trending toward a Week 13 return against Kansas City. That would likely push Boyd out of fantasy-starter consideration.

Bengals WR Tee Higgins set season highs in targets (13), receptions (9) and receiving yards (148) in Sunday's win over the Steelers. He accounted for 33.3% of QB Joe Burrow's pass attempts, 37.5% of the completions and 41.7% of the receiving yardage. RB Samaje Perine was the only other Bengal to catch more than 3 passes. WR Tyler Boyd finished 2nd on the team with 7 targets but caught only 2 for 42 yards. TE Hayden Hurst caught 2 of 3 targets for 28 yards. Week 12 presents a Titans matchup that should further motivate the Bengals to go pass-heavy -- especially if RB Joe Mixon (concussion) is out. The team reportedly hopes to have WR Ja'Marr Chase (hip) back for that game. His return would hurt the fantasy outlook for Boyd more than Higgins.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst (groin) is active for today’s game vs. the Saints. He was listed as questionable – but was also questionable last week before posting a 6-53-1 line on an 81% snap rate.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that there's "optimism" Bengals WR Tee Higgins (ankle) will play today against the Saints but that the team wants to "make sure he's ready" during pre-game warmups. Higgins will carry some risk even if active after leaving last week's game early with the ankle aggravation. TE Hayden Hurst (groin) is expected to play through his questionable tag.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst (groin) was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game vs. the Saints. Hurst has been battling this groin issue since Week 2. He was listed as questionable last week before posting a 6-53-1 line on an 81% snap rate. Assuming he's active, we'd feel comfortable using Hurst as a low-end TE1 this week.

Bengals QB Joe Burrow managed just 217 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT in Sunday night's meeting with a Ravens defense he slaughtered last year. Granted, this Baltimore D is healthier and Tee Higgins left early after aggravating his sprained ankle. But Burrow can't blame the protection this time. According to Pro Football Focus, no QB faced a lower rate of pressure in Week 5. Burrow took only 2 sacks among 38 dropbacks. He targeted WR Ja'Marr Chase a team-high 12 times but connected on just 7 for 50 yards. TE Hayden Hurst ranked 2nd in targets (7) and receptions (6), led the team with 53 receiving yards and caught Cincinnati's only TD pass. Burrow added a 1-yard TD on the ground. Week 6 brings a decent matchup with New Orleans, and Burrow sits a nice 7th among QBs in fantasy points per game for the year so far.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst found the end zone and led the team with 53 yards on 6 catches. Hurst scored on an awesome individual effort where he was able to extend the ball right at the goal line. Missing Tee Higgins (ankle, 10 snaps played) helped, but the former Raven has now seen 7+ targets in 3 of 5 appearances. Hurst will get another boost if Higgins is unable to suit up for Sunday’s game at New Orleans.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst (groin) is active for tonight's game vs. the Ravens. He went from limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday to no practice on Friday, so he figures to be operating at less than 100% tonight.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst (groin) is expected to play vs. the Ravens tonight, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Hurst went from limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday to no practice on Friday, so he seemingly won't be operating at 100% tonight.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst (groin) is questionable for Sunday night's game vs. the Ravens. He went from limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday to no practice on Friday. HC Zay Taylor "sounded optimistic" Friday that Hurst will play, per The Athletic's Jay Morrison. But we'd try to stay away from him in fantasy lineups at less than 100%.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst (groin) is not listed on the final injury report for Thursday night's game vs. Miami after putting in full practices on Tuesday and Wednesday. He was limited to a 51% route rate last week, but it looks like he's healthier heading into this one. Hurst has a plus matchup against the league's 32nd-ranked TE defense.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst (groin) is active for today’s game vs. the Jets. He practiced all week but was limited on Wednesday and Friday. The groin issue adds a bit of risk to his Week 3 fantasy profile.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst (groin) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Jets. He went from a limited practice on Wednesday to a full workout on Thursday and then limited again on Friday. It’s unclear if that was planned or a sign of a setback. A healthy Hurst looks like a fringe TE1, but this groin issue adds risk to his Week 3 profile.

Bengals HC Zac Taylor confirmed Monday that WR Tee Higgins is in the concussion protocol. Taylor said "the conversations are encouraging" -- whatever that means. Consider Higgins no better than 50/50 to be cleared in time for Sunday's game vs. the Cowboys. His absence would be a boost to WR Tyler Boyd and TE Hayden Hurst.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst ran well ahead of #2 TE Drew Sample in Sunday's OT loss to the Steelers, playing 75% of the team's offensive snaps to Sample's 29%. More importantly, Hurst ran a route on 78.8% of Joe Burrow dropbacks, compared with Sample's rate of just 15.2%. Burrow's 53 pass attempts inflated volume for everyone, but Hurst's 8 targets ranked 3rd on the team and accounted for a solid 15.1% of total attempts. He caught 5 for 46 yards. Hurst looks like he belongs among the top 20 fantasy TEs going forward. Beyond that, we'll see -- including what Tee Higgins' return from a Week 1 concussion means for target shares.

Bengals HC Zac Taylor gave his assessment on new TE Hayden Hurst. “Hayden has a really good catch radius,” Taylor said. “He has got good burst. He has got a good understanding and feel for some of these concepts in the red zone. He’s a really good weapon for us on the field.” Hurst will fill the role left by C.J. Uzomah, who ended 2021 with 49-493-5. Consider Hurst a streaming option in opportune matchups.

The Bengals agreed to a 1-year deal with TE Hayden Hurst. It's a solid landing spot for the former 1st-round pick. Hurst figures to step into C.J. Uzomah's role, which produced a 49-493-5 line in 16 games last season. Uzomah finished 19th among TEs in PPR points while seeing 12% of Bengals targets. Hurst will likely struggle to reach every-week TE1 status without injuries to Cincinnati's WR corps. But he should bring intriguing upside as a spot-start option in lineup-setting leagues and is a fine TE2 target in best ball.
