Donovan Wilson out a while with calf strain

        9:31am UTC 7/29/23

Cowboys S Donovan Wilson is expected to miss four to six weeks after straining his right calf in practice this week, according to ESPN's Todd Archer. That timeline could reach into the regular season. Dallas' defense should be OK, with former starter Malik Hooker as the third safety. Wilson's absence could mean more time in the box for S Jayron Kearse, though. He already looked like a value for fantasy football drafts by our IDP rankings.

        Parsons in, Hooker out

        11:35am UTC 10/30/22

Cowboys LB Micah Parsons (shoulder) is active for today's game against the Bears. S Malik Hooker (hamstring) is inactive. That could deliver a slight boost to the playing time of safeties Jayron Kearse and Donovan Wilson.

Parsons expected to play vs. Bears

        7:40am UTC 10/30/22

The Cowboys expect LB Micah Parsons (shoulder) to be ready for today's game against the Bears, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. He belongs in IDP lineups for the high-upside sack matchup. S Malik Hooker (hamstring) is a game-time decision. Try to avoid using him after he missed the entire practice week.

        Parsons, Hooker questionable vs. Bears

        5:50pm UTC 10/28/22

Cowboys LB Micah Parsons (shoulder) and S Malik Hooker (hamstring) are questionable for Sunday's game against the Bears. HC Mike McCarthy said Friday he doesn't have "high concern" that Parsons will miss the game, so we should be good to use him in a high-upside sack matchup. Hooker didn't practice all week and shouldn't be in IDP lineups even if he's active.

        Hooker gets multi-year deal

        11:05am UTC 3/15/22

The Cowboys are bringing S Malik Hooker back on a 2-year, $8 million deal, according to multiple reports. Hooker operated as the 3rd/4th safety in his 1st season with Dallas on a 1-year deal that paid him just $920,000. The new contract points to Hooker likely elevating to a starting role in 2022. Expect him to take over Damontae Kazee's spot. We'll see whether the team retains Jayron Kearse for the other safety spot. Hooker has yet to prove useful for most IDP formats -- even when he was healthy with the Colts.

        Wilson out vs. Chargers

        9:09am UTC 9/19/21

The Cowboys have downgraded S Donovan Wilson to out for today's game against the Chargers. He did not travel with the team because of the groin injury that originally rendered him questionable. Malik Hooker is expected to make his Dallas debut and play in Wilson's place. Damontee Kazee is the better bet for IDP production but brings his own risk. Kazee is questionable with his own thigh injury.

        Houston, Hooker active

        11:11am UTC 11/3/19

Colts DE Justin Houston (calf) and S Malik Hooker (knee) are active for today's game against the Steelers. Each guy turned up questionable but is available for normal usage. Houston looks less attractive for IDP lineups than usual with the calf issue and strong Pittsburgh pass protection.
