Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
Cowboys WR Michael Gallup (knee) is out for Sunday's game vs. the Bengals. He increased his practice participation this week, but "there is still a process of return to play that he has to finish," HC Mike McCarthy said. CeeDee Lamb (98%), Noah Brown (86%) and Dennis Houston (64%) operated as Dallas' top 3 WRs with Gallup out last week.
Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy said WR Michael Gallup (knee) will take team reps in Wednesday's practice for the 1st time since last January's ACL tear. It's unclear if Gallup will play against the Bengals this weekend, but he looks close to a return. Of course, Gallup will be tough to get excited about in fantasy lineups until Dallas gets QB Dak Prescott back.
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with his thumb injury, ESPN's Todd Archer reports. Prescott is meeting with a hand specialist on Monday, but the expectation is that he'll need a pin and plate inserted to stabilize his fractured joint. The short end of that 6-8 week timetable would have Prescott back for Week 8. But Dallas has a Week 9 bye, so Week 10 might be the most likely return date for Dak. His absence is obviously a big blow to all of the Cowboys' skill-position players. Prescott is cuttable in fantasy leagues without an IR spot.
Cowboys WR Michael Gallup (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday night's game vs. the Bucs. He got in 3 limited practices this week and seemingly has some shot to make his 2022 debut in Week 2. Look for Noah Brown to serve as Dallas' #2 WR and Jalen Tolbert the #3 in the opener.
Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy didn't rule out WR Michael Gallup (knee) for Sunday night's opener vs. the Bucs when asked Thursday. "We’ll talk about it,” McCarthy said, adding that Gallup "looks really good." We're still not expecting Gallup to play Week 1, but he should be back by the end of September.
Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News reports that Cowboys WR Michael Gallup won't practice this week or play in the regular-season opener. This doesn't come as a surprise and doesn't signal a setback for the WR coming off an end-of-season ACL tear. "He's hit every target to date," HC Mike McCarthy says, per Gehlken. "He looks really good." Noah Brown looks like the best bet to run as Dallas' #2 WR in the opener.
Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy said Wednesday that WR Michael Gallup is "getting close" in his return from his torn ACL. “Looks excellent,” McCarthy said. "He’s hit every target. His rehab is going very smooth. Just staying on the plan." Owner Jerry Jones said that Gallup could play next week if it was the Super Bowl. "We’re going to be cautious — not cautious, but conservative — with him," said Jones. "He won’t be out there more than likely against Tampa, but if it were the Super Bowl, he would be out there. He’s that ready.” It sounds like we should expect Gallup to make his 2022 debut before the end of September. He's worth stashing on fantasy benches.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Wednesday that WR Michael Gallup will avoid the regular season PUP list. Such a move would have cost him the first 4 games. Gallup only started running routes last week and admitted that it’s unrealistic for him to play in the opener vs. Tampa Bay. But it certainly sounds like he’ll return soon thereafter.
Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy said Tuesday that WR Michael Gallup is doing “really well” and has avoided any setbacks in his rehab from a torn ACL. Gallup suffered the injury in Week 17 of last season, but he’s had a relatively smooth recovery since then. Already out for Week 1, we're still not counting on the 26-year-old as an early-season fantasy contributor.
Cowboys WR Michael Gallup ran routes on Thursday for the first time since tearing his ACL last January, according to insider Michael Gehlken. “It felt great," Gallup said afterward. Gallup is still likely to open the regular season on the PUP list and miss at least the first 4 games. But he's at least making progress in his rehab.
Cowboys WR Michael Gallup (knee) admitted that he won't be ready to play Week 1, calling it "not a reasonable possibility.” It's a rare honest injury assessment from a player -- but it's not a surprise. Gallup didn't undergo surgery on his ACL until early February, so the typical 9-month recovery timeline would have him back in early November. We'll see if he can beat that timeline, but we're expecting Gallup to open the season on reserve PUP and miss at least the first 4 games.
Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy said Wednesday that WR Michael Gallup is in the "4th quarter" of his ACL rehab. "He hasn’t had a setback," McCarthy added. "He looks really good." McCarthy wouldn't give a timetable for Gallup's return, though. Considering he underwent surgery in early February, there's still a good chance that he misses at least the first 4 games of the season on the PUP list. Gallup even admitted today that it would be a stretch for him to play Week 1.
Cowboys WR Michael Gallup (knee) has been place on the PUP list. No surprise as he continues to recover from early-February surgery to repair a torn ACL. We'll see if Gallup remains on the PUP list to start the season, which would cost him the first 4 weeks. Owner Jerry Jones admitted earlier this offseason that Gallup is iffy for Week 1.
According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, Cowboys rookie WR Jalen Tolbert "is expected to start Week 1." Machota said right after the draft that the 3rd-round pick had a chance to compete for a significant role right away. Tolbert worked with the starters in spring workouts, helped by the absences of Michael Gallup and James Washington. Gallup isn't expected to be ready for the opener, coming off his end-of-season ACL tear. Washington has yet to deliver in the NFL and arrived on a small, 1-year contract in free agency. The uncertainty with Gallup and departure of Amari Cooper also leaves room for Tolbert to remain a factor even once Gallup returns. Tolbert presents intriguing upside -- especially in Dak Prescott best-ball lineups -- from a WR68 ADP in Underdog drafting.
Jon Machota of The Athletic believes rookie WR Jalen Tolbert “should be able to immediately compete for a starting spot.” That, of course, would be the WR3 job behind CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup, who’s recovering from a January ACL tear. Consider him questionable for Week 1 right now. As for Tolbert, the words of VP of Player Personnel Will McClay speak volumes about the team’s interest. "Tolbert can play multiple spots,” McClay said. “He’s got size, he’s extremely intelligent and the type of player you want to grow in that room. The upside is there because he’s an NFL style receiver, body style, size, ability to find space to be able to play inside and outside, so that versatility made him very attractive to us.” Tolbert’s main competition will come from former Steeler James Washington, who signed just a 1-year deal worth ~$1.2 million.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones admitted that WR Michael Gallup (knee) is iffy for the start of the season. “Optimistically, I expect him to give us a question mark around the first game," Jones said. "And I see a conversation that says conservatively, you would like to have a couple more games to get him out there.” This is just confirmation considering Gallup tore his ACL on January 2. Drafters shouldn't be expecting to have him for the start of the season. As Dallas' depth chart currently stands, WR James Washington would be in for a big role for however long Gallup is out.
The Cowboys and WR Michael Gallup have agreed to a 5-year extension worth $62.5 million, according to multiple reports. This has been the expected move. The question for Gallup in 2022 will be how soon he can make it back from the ACL tear.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Cowboys are "close" to a new deal with impending free agent WR Michael Gallup. This news, of course, comes alongside the expected trade/release of WR Amari Cooper. We'll be curious to see how much Gallup commands in his extension, coming off his Week 17 ACL tear. We'll also see about Gallup's progress through the offseason in judging his 2022 outlook. He certainly carries risk as an early best-ball selection. It at least appears that you should assume he'll remain in Dallas.
WR Michael Gallup is "recovering well" from his torn ACL, according to insider Doug Kyed, and the "current expectation" is that he'll be back to 100% by August. That'd be about 7 months after his injury -- a relatively quick recovery. We'll keep an eye on Gallup's progress this offseason. And we'll see where he signs when he hits the free-agent market next month.
