Denver ran only 48 plays in a road loss to Vegas, but it was nice to see Sutton convert on his 3rd end zone target of the season. Losing RB Javonte Williams to a knee injury — potentially for an extended absence — might push this offense to more passing in the weeks ahead. Regardless, Sutton is locked in as a weekly starter.
Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy played through his questionable tag for Sunday night's win over the 49ers. He spent 20 fewer snaps on the field than WR Courtland Sutton but ran only 9 fewer routes (39-30, according to Pro Football Focus). Sutton led the team, though, in targets (10), receptions (8) and receiving yards (97). No one else on the team reached 30 receiving yards. Jeudy added 2 catches for 17 yards on 6 targets. His 1 missed connection was a narrowly completed deep ball that got tipped by the covering corner just before reaching Jeudy's hands. We'd bet on that playing-time gap closing as Jeudy gets further beyond his Week 2 injury.
Broncos WR Courtland Sutton posted a 7-122 receiving line on 11 targets in Sunday's win over Houston. He accounted for 50% of Russell Wilson's total completions on a sluggish offensive day and claimed 35.5% of targets. Jerry Jeudy left early with a chest injury, but the team doesn't expect it to be serious. We'll see about Jeudy's Week 3 availability. No other Bronco exceeded 4 targets against the Texans.

Sutton tallied 30 yards on a scramble-drill play, then drew an overthrown end zone target on the very next snap. Later, he drew a pass interference call on another deep pass. On the day, Sutton matched Jerry Jeudy in targets (7). It’s only a matter of time before the deep balls hit here, especially as the entire offense settles into a new system. Next up is a home date with Houston and top draft pick (CB) Derek Stingley.
Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy finished Week 1 with 4 grabs, 102 yards and 1 score. His first target didn’t come until late in the 2nd quarter, but Jeudy made it count on a 67-yard deep ball on 3rd and 2. He roasted the CB on that one and dodged 2 tacklers en route to the end zone. Jeudy added a late drop on a short-range pass, but the takeaway here remains overwhelmingly positive. He matched Courtland Sutton in targets (7) and led the team in yardage. Next up is a home game with Houston.
One of the biggest fantasy football questions in Denver this year is who will lead the team in receiving, both in terms of targets and production. ESPN Broncos reporter Jeff Legwold says a trend has emerged: "[Russell] Wilson has shown in training camp he's going to move the ball around to find the matchups he likes. But he's also shown in practices and the joint workouts with the Dallas Cowboys that when he really needs a completion or has been moved off his spot by the pass rush, he's going to look for [Courtland] Sutton. There is always the question of whether those tendencies will hold up in games. [Jerry] Jeudy is too good a route-runner -- and Wilson has spent plenty of time working with him -- to not be a factor (Jeudy often attends the quarterback meetings)." Legwold goes on to compare the situation to when Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker both put up big numbers with Peyton Manning in 2012. Thomas beat Decker by 19 targets and 9 receptions that season, but both finished among the top 9 PPR wideouts. "If both are healthy all the way through the season, they're both going to likely have their best years," Legwold adds. If we get production like that, this question ultimately won't matter because both WRs will have paid off their ADPs. Nevertheless, it's a question we'll all keep trying to answer until fantasy-draft season ends.
Broncos WR Tim Patrick tore his right ACL in Tuesday's practice, insider Mike Klis reports. Patrick will miss the entire 2022 season. The timing of the injury at least gives Patrick a good chance to be ready for the start of the 2023 campaign. He signed a 3-year, $34 million extension last November. We had Patrick projected for 85 targets, so this opens up a lot of potential volume for Denver's other pass catchers. WR Jerry Jeudy, WR Courtland Sutton, TE Albert Okwuegbunam and TE Greg Dulcich all get boosts in the rankings. But the biggest winner is WR K.J. Hamler, who has a clear path to the #3 job if he can make it back from last September's torn ACL and dislocated hip.
The Broncos fired HC Vic Fangio. He won just 7, 5 and 7 games across 3 seasons with Denver. No word yet on OC Pat Shurmur, but we imagine he'll also be gone. We'll see who GM George Paton tabs as his new HC.

WR Tim Patrick is also on the COVID list, so Denver will likely be down to WRs Courtland Sutton, Kendall Hinton and Diontae Spencer. Sutton and TEs Noah Fant and Albert Okwuegbunam should get target boosts this weekend, but it's still tough to get excited about any of them with QB Drew Lock.

Broncos HC Vic Fangio confirmed on Wednesday that QB Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) is out for Sunday's game vs. the Raiders. QB Drew Lock will make his 1st start of the season in that one. The 3rd-year QB is the polar opposite of Bridgewater: big-armed, aggressive but inaccurate. We'll see exactly what Lock means for Denver's WRs, but we'd try to avoid Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick in Week 16 fantasy lineups.
The Broncos and WR Courtland Sutton have agreed to a 4-year, $60.8 million extension with $34.9 million guaranteed, his agency tells NFL Network. Sutton was set to hit free agency in March but is now signed with Denver through the 2025 season. Denver also recently extended WR Tim Patrick through 2024. Patrick has remained a key cog in Denver's passing game even since WR Jerry Jeudy returned. So his absence on Sunday would be a boost to Jeudy and WR Courtland Sutton's outlooks.
Broncos OC Pat Shurmur is in COVID protocols and won't be available for Sunday's game against the Eagles, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports. Shurmur is Denver's offensive play-caller, so it's less-than-ideal for QB Teddy Bridgewater and Denver's skill-position guys.
The forecast for tonight's Broncos-Browns game calls for sustained winds up to 20 mph and gusts around 30 mph. That's enough to impact some longer throws and kicks -- and another reason to expect this to be a low-scoring game.
