Kenneth Gainwell Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Kenneth Gainwell has been the Eagles' "featured RB during the two-minute drill" in training camp, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer's Josh Tolentino. Gainwell has played plenty in that role over the past two seasons, but it's surprising to hear he's still in it after the Eagles acquired RB D'Andre Swift. Losing that work would be a blow to Swift's fantasy value. We'll see if preseason action reveals anything else about the Eagles' backfield plans.

Pro Football Network's Adam Caplan says based on the early practices of training camp, new Eagles RB D'Andre Swift "will easily be the Eagles' most targeted running back." That's been the assumption of most people, of course, since Philadelphia acquired the former Lion in the middle of the NFL Draft. This semi-confirmation is worth noting, though, for anyone wondering if Kenneth Gainwell might fight off Swift in that area. Caplan adds that "most of the passes Swift caught last week appeared to be designed pass plays to him." That would help Swift's receiving volume in an offense that sported the league's second-fewest RB receptions last year. Of course, it's also worth noting that Caplan didn't talk about Swift being the all-around touch leader for the Eagles. We've preferred Rashaad Penny at ADP so far and consider him much more of a fantasy football sleeper than Swift. See how all Philly backs stack up in our RB rankings.

The Lions are trading RB D'Andre Swift to the Eagles, according to multiple reports. Detroit gets a fourth-round pick in 2025 and a 30-spot move up in Round 7 this year. A move has been expected since Detroit drafted RB Jahmyr Gibbs in the first round. Swift joins a crowded backfield in Philly but is also likely the best player in the group. We'll see exactly what he can command in terms of regular workload, but we're drafting Swift ahead of Rashaad Penny and Kenneth Gainwell. The other two remain in play for best ball rosters but should come off the board in double-digit rounds. Check our 2023 fantasy football RB rankings for the initial projection on Swift and adjusted numbers for his new backfield mates.

The Eagles and RB Rashaad Penny have agreed to a one-year deal, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The former NFL first-round pick has struggled to stay healthy in his career, though he's shown the ability to be an effective fantasy RB when healthy. Penny has averaged over six yards per carry on 176 carries in 15 games over the last two seasons. Prior to succumbing to a fractured tibia in Week 5, Penny was the RB24 overall in PPR scoring with an 11.7 PPG average through the first month of the 2022 season. Should he stay healthy, Penny has an opportunity to thrive behind an Eagles offensive line that ranked 6th in Football Outsiders' adjusted line yards in 2022. That said, the presence of QB Jalen Hurts does cap the upside of any RB in the Eagles' offense, particularly in the red zone. There's reason to like Penny as a dead zone RB in redraft this season. Moreover, if the Eagles don't address the RB room beyond this signing, RB Kenneth Gainwell becomes an incredibly appealing fantasy option as a bench stash. Gainwell, a former 4th-round pick in 2021, performed well down the stretch for the Eagles and would stand to inherit some hefty work should the oft-injured Penny find himself ailing again in 2023. This backfield will be scary if all goes well assuming health.

The Eagles promoted Brian Johnson to OC. The 36-year-old has spent the past 2 seasons as Philly's QB coach, helping QB Jalen Hurts develop into 1 of the game's best. While this will be Johnson's first NFL OC gig, he does have 4 years of OC experience at the college level (2012-2013 at Utah, 2017 at Houston and 2020 at Florida). With Johnson's promotion and HC Nick Sirianni back, there should be plenty of continuity for the Eagles' offense in 2023, despite the loss of OC Shane Steichen.

Eagles RB Miles Sanders tallied 11 carries for 42 yards and 2 TDs in Sunday's NFC Championship win vs. the 49ers. Teammate Kenneth Gainwell led the team with 48 rushing yards. Sanders, QB Jalen Hurts, and RB Boston Scott combined for 4 rushing TDs in a game against a 49ers' defense that ranked as the single-toughest matchup in adjusted fantasy points allowed to RBs. Eagles OC Shane Steichen and company deserve a great deal of credit for this momentous victory. The Eagles will now be preparing to face the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.

Eagles RB Kenneth Gainwell tallied 112 yards on 12 carries with a 35-yard TD run in Saturday's Divisional Round win vs. the Giants. Teammate RB Miles Sanders ran the ball 17 times for 90 yards. The Eagles' rushing attack collectively cranked out 3 of the team's 5 total TDs and 268 total rushing yards, their 2nd-highest total in a game all season. The big takeaway here is that Sanders had his first game of over 65 rushing yards since Week 14. Hopefully, this is a sign that the unfortunate skid of production he'd seen over the last month is over. We'll find out who the Eagles' opponent will be in the NFC Championship game tomorrow night.

Eagles QB Gardner Minshew racked up 355 yards and 2 TDs in Saturday's loss at Dallas. Both of his TDs went to WR DeVonta Smith, who led the team with 12 targets, 8 catches and 113 yards. WR A.J. Brown added 6-103 receiving on 8 targets. RB Kenneth Gainwell (4-41) and TE Dallas Goedert (3-67) were the other Eagles with multiple catches. Minshew will be worth a look for Week 17 fantasy football lineups in a neutral scoring matchup with the Saints, if QB Jalen Hurts (shoulder) remains out.

Eagles RB Miles Sanders racked up 21 carries in Saturday's loss to the Cowboys. But he managed only 65 yards and lost a crucial fumble late. Sanders tied his 2nd most carries for the season, ceding only 4 RB attempts to Kenneth Gainwell (for 17 yards). Sanders added just 1 catch for 6 yards. He'll face a better RB-scoring matchup with the Saints in Week 17.

Eagles RB Miles Sanders gained just 24 yards on 10 carries in Sunday's win over Tennessee, the league's toughest run D on the year. He did save his fantasy line with a 4th-quarter TD from 3 yards out. Sanders also caught both of his targets for 14 yards. RB Boston Scott carried 6 times for 16 yards and caught a pass for 5. RB Kenneth Gainwell added a 3-38 receiving line on 4 targets and 3 carries for 15 yards. The Philly backfield gets a better matchup with the Giants in Week 14.

Eagles RB Miles Sanders racked up 143 yards and 2 TDs on 21 carries in Sunday night's win over the Packers. He and QB Jalen Hurts (157 rushing yards) powered a 363-yard rushing performance for Philadelphia. Sanders added 3 receptions for 17 yards on 3 targets. RB Kenneth Gainwell added a rushing TD among 8 carries for 39 yards. Week 13 holds a much tougher rushing matchup with a Titans defense that has been toughest in the league on RBs.

Eagles RB Miles Sanders posted an 18-71-1 rushing line in Sunday night's win over the Cowboys. It marked his 2nd highest carry total of the year and the 5th straight game in which he garnered 15+ attempts. RB Boston Scott returned from a 2-game rib injury to carry 6 times for 16 yards. RB Kenneth Gainwell rushed 5 times for 25 yards. Sanders claimed the backfield's only target in a game that saw QB Jalen Hurts go just 15-for-25 passing.

Eagles RB Miles Sanders racked up 134 yards and 2 TDs on 27 carries in Sunday's win over the Jaguars. He handled 79.4% of Philadelphia's RB rushes and 3 of the 5 backfield targets. Sanders caught 2 of those for another 22 yards. Kenneth Gainwell claimed the other 2 targets, turning them into just 1 catch for a loss of 2 yards. Gainwell added a 10-yard TD run but totaled only 19 yards on 5 attempts. With Boston Scott out, Trey Sermon claimed the other 2 carries and took them for gains of 14 and 5 yards. It was the largest carry total of Sanders' career and just his 4th game ever with 20+ rushes. He rushed 13, 17 and 15 times over this season's 1st 3 contests.

Eagles RB Boston Scott (ribs) is out for Sunday's game vs. the Jaguars. He's totaled 10 carries and 1 target through 3 games, so his absence could mean a few extra touches for RBs Miles Sanders and/or Kenneth Gainwell. Trey Sermon figures to be active as Philly's #3 RB on Sunday.

Eagles RB Boston Scott (rib) missed Wednesday's practice. He's totaled 10 carries and 1 target through 3 games, so his absence would free up a few touches for RBs Miles Sanders and Kenneth Gainwell.

Miles Sanders handled 17 of the 23 Eagles RB carries in Monday night's win over the Vikings, tallying 80 yards. He also claimed half of the team's 6 RB targets, catching all 3 looks for 6 yards. Boston Scott finished 2nd on the ground (4-19), with Kenneth Gainwell trailing (2-7). They added just 1 catch apiece. Sanders' 53% snap share easily outpaced Gainwell's 26% and Scott's 21%. Through 2 games, Sanders has amassed 30 rushes vs. just 8 for Scott and 7 for Gainwell. The only downside Monday night was QB Jalen Hurts claiming both of the team's rushing scores (1 of those from 26 yards out).

Eagles RB Miles Sanders clearly led the ground work among Philly RBs in Sunday's win over the Lions, carrying 13 times vs. 5 for Kenneth Gainwell and 4 for Boston Scott. Sanders ran most efficiently as well, tallying 96 yards at 7.4 per rush. (Gainwell averaged 4.0; Scott 2.5.) Each guy claimed a rushing TD, as did QB Jalen Hurts, who ran 17 times for 90 yards. The QB's carries were a mix of designed run plays and scrambles. Sanders added 2 catches for 9 yards on 2 targets. Gainwell beat him with 4 targets (2-12 receiving) but ran 5 fewer pass routes than Sanders. It was an encouraging opener for Sanders drafters, and the Philly running game on whole.

The Eagles on Thursday claimed RB Trey Sermon off waivers. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the team had previously discussed a trade with the 49ers. Sermon took less than 2 full years to bust his way off the roster of the team that drafted him in Round 3. So it's tough to bet on a big impact from him. But he's immediately the heaviest RB in the Philly backfield. We'll see whether than can make Sermon a quick factor in short-yardage situations.

The Eagles rested RB Boston Scott -- along with many starters -- in Saturday's preseason finale. RB Kenneth Gainwell played, however -- though he did leave after the team's 1st offensive possession. Brandon Lee Gowton of the Bleeding Green Nation Eagles blog writes that "points to him being RB3, which is a little weird because Gainwell seemed like RB2 for most of camp." Gainwell opened his rookie season as RB2 behind Miles Sanders before falling behind Scott and Jordan Howard in usage after Sanders went down. We'll see exactly how things sort out here. For now, both Gainwell and Scott make sense in the double-digit rounds of fantasy football drafts. Sanders is also going late enough to mitigate some of the risk on his role uncertainty and high injury probability. This could be a frustrating situation for fantasy players to deal with week to week, though.

Eagles RB Kenneth Gainwell was back at practice on Sunday. He missed less than a week with a minor hip injury. Some Eagles insiders believe Gainwell is in line for pass-catching and goal-line duties for Philly this year. That'd make him a valuable fantasy asset.
