Samaje Perine Out For Week 11

        7:52pm UTC 11/14/25

Bengals RB Samaje Perine (ankle) is out for Sunday’s game vs. the Steelers. That should leave RB Chase Brown in a workhorse role. He played 95% of the offensive snaps and handled 11 carries and 14 targets with Perine out for most of Cincinnati’s last game.

        Samaje Perine Has High-Ankle Sprain

        2:21am UTC 11/5/25

Bengals RB Samaje Perine suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Week 9 loss to the Bears and is considered "week to week," HC Zac Taylor said. Perine gets a Week 10 bye but could certainly miss time beyond that. High-ankle sprains often cost players 4+ weeks, although we don't have a definitive timetable for Perine's return. His absence would be a major boon for RB Chase Brown, who set season highs with a 95% snap rate and 86% route rate with Perine out for most of last week's game. Brown handled 11 of 13 RB carries and drew a whopping 14 targets. He looks like at least a high-end RB2 for as long as Perine is out.

        Samaje Perine Hurts Right Ankle

        2:45am UTC 11/3/25

Bengals RB Samaje Perine injured his right ankle early in the second quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Bears and did not return. RB Chase Brown dominated backfield work the rest of the way, handling eight carries and a whopping 13 targets to RB Tahj Brooks' one carry and 0 targets. We'll look for an update on Perine's status. Brown will be a big fantasy winner if he misses more time.

Signs Of Life From Chase Brown

        1:30pm UTC 10/17/25

Bengals RB Chase Brown had easily his best game of the season in Thursday night's 33-31 win over the Steelers. He carried 11 times for 108 yards -- good for 9.8 yards per carry. Brown busted off a season-long 37-yard run in the second quarter and had a 27-yarder earlier in that frame. He wasn't nearly as good in the passing game, catching two of four targets for -8 yards. Brown had a drop in the first quarter for what could have gone for a gain of 20+ yards.

Chase Brown Barely Playing More Than Samaje Perine

        3:52am UTC 10/13/25

Bengals RB Chase Brown posted a 9-42 rushing line in Sunday's loss at Green Bay. That's not helping anyone win a fantasy matchup, but the 4.7 yards per rush at least marked a season high. Brown added 2 catches for 7 yards among two targets, season-low receiving production for Cincinnati's lead back. And perhaps most worrisome, he has spent the past two weeks nearly matching Samaje Perine in playing time.

Does Samaje Perine Present the Biggest Risk to Chase Brown?

        1:31pm UTC 8/8/25

Bengals RB Chase Brown assumed his expected lead-back spot in Thursday night's preseason opener against the Eagles. According to Pro Football Focus, he played 12 of the team's 16 first-team snaps, matching WR Tee Higgins (and WR Andrei Iosivas) while trailing QB Joe Burrow and WR Ja'Marr Chase by just four snaps. But Samaje Perine picked up those other four snaps, running a pass route on each of them. That put him just two routes short of Brown's number (six). According to PFF, Perine took the field for Cincinnati's only third down with more than a yard to go, and his other three chances came in clear passing situations.

        Bengals Done with Zack Moss

        2:02pm UTC 7/30/25

The Bengals on Wednesday announced that they've released RB Zack Moss. It's not a shocking ending given that Moss averaged a career-low 3.3 yards per rush last year, suffered a season-ending neck injury, and then took a pay cut in the offseason. But it could tell us something about the 2025 backfield.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire Doubtful For Week 5

        8:15pm UTC 10/5/24

Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) is listed as doubtful for Monday night's game vs. the Saints. He returned to three limited practices this week but isn't yet ready to make his 2024 debut. That'll again leave Kansas City's backfield to Kareem Hunt, Samaje Perine, and Carson Steele. Hunt wound up leading the way last week and is the best Week 5 fantasy bet.

Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been designated to return from the non-football illness list. He missed the first four games of the season dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder related to gun violence in his youth. Fully healthy from a physical standpoint, he's capable of making an immediate contribution to this undermanned Chiefs backfield. We'll see if Edwards-Helaire ends up active for Monday night's game vs. the Saints. He's not a Week 5 fantasy option but is worth a wait-and-see stash in deeper leagues.
