D'Andre Swift & Roschon Johnson Out For Week 9

        6:54pm UTC 10/31/25

Bears RB D'Andre Swift (groin) is out for Sunday's game vs. the Bengals. He's been battling this groin issue for a few weeks now. It either got worse over the last week, or the team finally decided to get him some rest. We'll see if he makes it back for Week 10. RB Roschon Johnson (back) is also out for this Sunday, leaving Kyle Monangai and Travis Homer as the healthy RB on the active roster. RB Brittain Brown is on the practice squad. Homer doesn't have a touch on offense this season, while Monangai's role has been growing in recent weeks. The rookie is a good bet to handle most of the backfield work in this matchup against Cincinnati's 32nd-ranked RB defense.

D'Andre Swift Questionable For Week 15, Roschon Johnson Out

        7:48pm UTC 12/14/24

Bears RB D'Andre Swift (groin) is listed as questionable for Monday night's game vs. the Vikings. He only got in a limited practice on Saturday but said afterward that he expects to play against Minnesota. The late kickoff makes it a tricky situation for fantasy owners, though. RB Roschon Johnson (concussion) is out for Week 15, so Swift's absence would leave the backfield to RBs Travis Homer and Darrynton Evans. If you're considering those two for Swift insurance, we'd lean toward Homer.

D'Andre Swift & Roschon Johnson Out Thursday

        9:10pm UTC 12/12/24

Bears RB D'Andre Swift (groin) did not practice on Thursday. It's a new injury for Swift, who missed the first two practices last week with a quad. RB Roschon Johnson (concussion) was also sidelined on Thursday. We'll see if these guys get back on the field tomorrow, ahead of Monday night's game vs. the Vikings. Desperate fantasy owners could stash RB Travis Homer, who'd be the lead back if Swift and Johnson miss the Monday nighter.

D'Andre Swift Expected To Play Week 14

        8:12am UTC 12/8/24

Bears RB D'Andre Swift (quad) is expected to play vs. the 49ers today, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Swift is listed as questionable after only getting in a limited practice on Friday, so he carries elevated risk in Week 14 fantasy lineups. But there's also a chance Swift handles more work today with RB Roschon Johnson (concussion) out. RBs Travis Homer and Darrynton Evans will join Swift in Chicago's backfield today.

D'Andre Swift Questionable For Week 14, Roschon Johnson Out

        2:18pm UTC 12/6/24

Bears RB D'Andre Swift (quad) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the 49ers. He only got in a limited practice on Friday, so he’s seemingly legitimately in question for this one. RB Roschon Johnson (concussion) has been ruled out, leaving Travis Homer as the top healthy RB on the roster. RBs Darrynton Evans and Demetric Felton are on the practice squad. Homer would be a RB3 or Flex-level play if Swift ends up missing this week.

D’Andre Swift, Roschon Johnson Still Sidelined

        3:25pm UTC 12/5/24

Bears RBs D’Andre Swift (quad) and Roschon Johnson (concussion) remained out of practice on Thursday. If they’re both out come Sunday, the bulk of Chicago’s backfield work would likely shift to RB3 Travis Homer. He’s listed at 201 pounds and has totaled only three carries in 2024. Meanwhile, the Bears have change-of-pace options in Darrynton Evans and Demetric Felton. For now, Homer is just a speculative add in deep leagues.

D'Andre Swift & Roschon Johnson Out Wednesday

        8:57pm UTC 12/4/24

Bears RBs D'Andre Swift (quad) and Roschon Johnson (concussion) did not practice on Wednesday. We don't have any details on Swift's injury. He seemed to make it out of the Thanksgiving loss okay. Johnson will need to get in at least a limited practice tomorrow to have a chance to be cleared in time for this weekend's game vs. the 49ers. Travis Homer and Demetric Felton are the other RBs on Chicago's active roster. RB Darrynton Evans is on the practice squad.

        Roschon Johnson A Healthy Scratch

        11:43am UTC 9/8/24

Bears RB Roschon Johnson is a healthy scratch for today's opener vs. the Titans. That leaves RBs D'Andre Swift, Khalil Herbert, and Travis Homer dressed for Chicago. We'll see what the workload split looks like under new OC Shane Waldron, but Swift is the only viable Week 1 fantasy play. We'd expect Johnson to work into the backfield mix if Swift or Herbert miss time this season, but he's droppable in shallow fantasy leagues.

Bears RB D'Onta Foreman (ankle, shin) is inactive for tonight's game vs. the Vikings. RBs Khalil Herbert, Roschon Johnson, and Travis Homer are dressed for Chicago. Herbert should handle the majority of the early-down work, with Johnson spelling him on passing downs in particular.

Bears RB Roschon Johnson (concussion) is out for Sunday's game vs. the Raiders. He's yet to return to practice, despite sustaining his concussion over two weeks ago. With RB Khalil Herbert (ankle) on IR, the Bears are down to RBs D'Onta Foreman, Darrynton Evans, and Travis Homer, who is set to return from his hamstring injury. Foreman is the favorite for carries after handling 15 of them last week.

        Roschon Johnson out again Thursday

Bears RB Roschon Johnson (concussion) remained sidelined for Thursday's practice. He's now a long shot to be cleared ahead of Sunday's game vs. the Raiders. Johnson's absence will leave Chicago's backfield to RBs D'Onta Foreman, Darrynton Evans, and Travis Homer, who is set to return from his hamstring injury. Bears RB Roschon Johnson (concussion) did not practice on Wednesday. It's concerning that he hasn't made enough progress through the protocol to even get in a limited practice. RB Travis Homer (hamstring) got in a limited practice on Wednesday after missing last week's game.

        Three Bears RBs out Wednesday

        8:32pm UTC 10/11/23

Bears RB Roschon Johnson (concussion) did not practice on Wednesday. That doesn't bode well for his chances of being cleared in time for this weekend's game vs. the Vikings. We know that RB Khalil Herbert (ankle) will miss that one. And RB Travis Homer (hamstring) also missed Wednesday's practice. It's looking like D'Onta Foreman will be up as Chicago's lead back against Minnesota.

Khalil Herbert to miss some time with ankle injury

        7:35am UTC 10/8/23

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that Bears RB Khalil Herbert is expected to miss "multiple weeks" after injuring his right ankle in Thursday night's win over Washington. That could give rookie Roschon Johnson a shot to lead the backfield. Though Johnson came away from the Washington game with a concussion that puts his Week 6 in doubt. RB Travis Homer is also dealing with a hamstring injury. So we might be looking at D'Onta Foreman as Chicago's top back for next Sunday's home date with Minnesota. We'll keep watching the situation throughout the coming week. But Foreman at least makes sense as a waiver wire option in Week 6.

Roschon Johnson third on initial depth chart

        2:40pm UTC 8/8/23

The Bears' first "unofficial" depth chart lists rookie RB Roschon Johnson third. He unsurprisingly trails incumbent Khalil Herbert and veteran free-agent pickup D'Onta Foreman. Reports have had both working ahead of Johnson in training camp. An earlier version of the depth chart also had Johnson behind Trestan Ebner and Travis Homer, but Chicago corrected that. These early depth charts can often prove to hold no value, and Johnson will need to work past at least one veteran to find 2023 fantasy relevance. But he's in a decent spot considering the limited career production of Herbert and Foreman. None of the Bears' backs cracks the top 36 in our RB rankings.

        Foreman joins Bears backfield

        8:44am UTC 3/17/23

The Bears signed RB D'Onta Foreman to a 1-year, $3 million deal. Foreman is coming off a nice season in Carolina, posting a career-high 914 rushing yards on 4.5 yards per carry. He ranked 26th among 42 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus' rushing grades and 21st in Elusive Rating. New backfield mate Khalil Herbert beat Foreman in both metrics, finishing 25th and 6th. We'll consider Herbert the favorite to lead Chicago's David Montgomery-less backfield in carries for now but will keep a close eye on the backfield all offseason. It's worth noting that neither Herbert nor Foreman have much pass-catching production on their resumes. The Bears also have change-of-pace types Travis Homer and Trestan Ebner on the RB depth chart. There's a chance this is a 3-man committee backfield in 2023.
